What's this one underneath?

Mmmmm, ham, artichoke, mushrooms and olives, divine!

Anyone need more smiley - bubbly to wash it down with?

Where has everyone's favourite picnic taken place? I think mine is the Fete Champetres organised by the National Trust at their properties in the evening. My particular one is at Claremont Park, Esher. You take a picnic and there is a new theme each year with music and performances around the Gardens with a huge firework display at the end of the evening. Almost everyone dresses up in fancy dress relavent to the theme and if the weather is good its a really magical event.

hmm, I think I ordered a "mushroom, egg, ham, pepper, onion, and some other stuff"
*goes back in time to place the order*
Yep, here it is! smiley - cool

Best picnic I've been at was in France - the fete locale at the village we were staying in in Roujan. Well, kind of a picnic anyway - plenty of wine, and lots of courses, all served to a large crowd of people sat around on benches. Wonderful! smiley - biggrin

The best way to picnic is to have proper tables and chairs, white table linen, real glasses and candelabra on the table etc.

However I've had an enjoyable meal in the back of an estate car in the pouring rain with wet children and dogs (not all mine) and a howling gale!

no way!!!

it has to be on green grass and with blankets and the sun shining in an open field with birds singing

No, I think I'll go with Caerwyn on this one.
There's nothing wrong with a bit of bad weather, etc, if you're with friends [smiley - winkeye]
It's the mood that's important...

in that context yes, but i am thinking of a more publicly social picnic

A picnic on the beach is good too, providing you take a windbreak and a warm jacket and don't mind sand in your rolls.

Aahh, the joys of a British summer!

My sympathies, Cleba, if you have got the bug that's going around here. It's been pretty nasty.

*rummages in hamper, brings out a thermos*

Here, have some hot honey and lemon.
