a japanese kelp I think... used in petrie dishes in labratories... it's also used in vegetarian jello but it's a lot stronger than non-veg gelatine is. It will stay solid at room temperature whereas jello will melt.

basically.. yes... it's a gelatinizing powder made from it.. non-veg gelatine is made from bones, hooves, etc.

well... jelly as in jell-o yes.. thats pretty much what it is.. but jelly as in jams and stuff usually use fruit pectin.. smiley - erm or at least that's what I use when I make them...

for jell-o-esque stuff I use agar...
