I usually have about 20 windows open. And I do store all my entries off line. So I'm safe there.
As for the down time yesterday, it was a good idea to sit it out and not try and re-register - too many identities causes an identity crisis and pushes up the number of members unnecessarily.

you can't actually register in the down time. it doesn't register properly as it can not record the details on the user database.
