I was wondering if anyone could help me with a "small!!" problem I have? I would be grateful for any opinions good or bad, or any advice, especially if it based on experience. OK here we go. How do I get my Hindu boyfriend's parents to at least meet me before dismissing me as unsuitable, or am I fighting a losing battle, answers on a postcard!!

Hi,
It sounds like we have a similar problem! My boyfriend is Hindu too and although I appear to be everything his parents would want in a future wife ie brought up well, just finished a good degree, just started a well paid job as a pharmacist etc, the fact that I'm white means they just won't acknowledge the fact that I exist and we've been together for over 2 years.
It's not like I can't accept it, I've always known that they wouldn't be happy about it but I'd just like to know why they're so devastated about it. I can understand families of ethnic minority people being disappointed if their child married a white person because if they all did it, it 2 generations time, there would be no Asian, black, Chinese etc people left. I just don't understand why they are so devastated, it's not like I'm a mass murderer or anything!
Please help!

i am caucasian my wife is vietnamese. when we first decided to marry we were very worried about how her parents would take it. It actually turned out ok. I think what helped is the fact that I make an effort to learn as much about their culture as I can. Everything from food and holidays to religion. I am also willing to try new things ( right now i am learning to speak vietnamese). I don't make a big issue about trying strange foods ( i tried ducks tounge the other day). This all seems to help, some of the other spouces don't try and have not been recieved as well. Also freinds of my wife are Hindu and her sister married a white guy.Her parents disowned her until she had kids then they accepted the idea and things are getting better.

I am an indian girl dating a jewish(non religious) guy and have had constant problems with my parents. They dont know we are seeing each other still and its driving me mad. Anyone with advice???
