For me (British) and my boyfriend (Egyptian, but lived in the UK since a baby)we never seem to come across any problems to do with our race so to speak, sometimes you get a few glaces and glares but nothing to get upset about. I find the culture side of our relationship something that I am trying to get used to, he is Coptic Orthodox(for those that don't know, it's the first form of Christianity) and it does play a large part of his life. We want to marry and I will convert which to me isn't scary or anything as I'm a Christian myself, it's the smaller things that can be a problem for us not the big ones, just the little customs that having grown up in a westen world I have taken for granted.
Once we arranged to stop over at a friends house for his Birthday and we nearly didn't stay as we'd be sleeping in the same house, in seperate rooms though, that was considered taboo. Even the guy who's Birthday it was has never had a girl stay over before, he's 21.
I don't get introduced as my boyfriends girlfriend just his friend, we can't hold hands in front of his parents or they're friends which at first was hard to contain.
I did experience an Egyptian girl once questioning him on why he had gone out of the church and they're cast for a girlfriend, I felt hurt by that because I had only met her that day and thought she had no right to ask personal questions just as I wouldn't about her love life. But then I thought she obviously fancied him and was jealous.
Sometimes it can be difficult a new thing comes up and I'm like, 'are you joking' but its part of who he is we accept each other and thats the person I fell in love with.
If there's anyone else out there in the same situation as me I'd like to here you thoughts and feelings on this subject as I would like to share your views and help anyone that maybe in the same boat.
