I think most of us have - but as race/culture/national identity/ethnicity are nice big fluid overlapping concepts, we can pursue these different discussions, using our different "definitions"

As to your original "why is it a talking-point?", this whole site is filled with things that aren't usually discussed. Admittedly, the discussion was introduced a bit bluntly, but as it appears to be fairly popular, people seem to have a lot to say.

Most of it personal, but I think these fluid concepts I mentioned have a massive subjective dimension. It's nice to hear other people's thoughts.

Hum...

It is indeed fashionable to talk about this sort of stuff these days (racism, multi-culturality etc..), however, in discussions like these most people tend to just repeat phrases they heard somewhere else (which might sort of match their own ideas), instead of thinking about the whole peoblem more thoroughly...

The introduction to this talking point was IMO just another one of these cases. Like: "Oh my god! It's thursday and we need a new topic for this week... What do we use? Oh here! Inter-racial marriages." I mean what would you expect, all people coming in and saying: "I am against it! God created different colours and it should stay like that, so no mixing up!" or "I disagree, because the original culture of my country is degrading since so many people leave to make a living in some European country." ... I don't think so.

That was one of my original complaints. The other one was the usage of the term 'inter-racial' then mixing up cultures and religion. Well... That all were indications that the 'talking Point theme' was not thoroughly thought thorugh.

In retrospect, I must admit you have a point there, people talk about it, so it's good. On the other hand, are people REALLY thinking or are they just hiding their own prejudices behind prefabricated phrases by some other smart people? Isn't the discussion, aren't the contributions somewhat automatic?

Well... I might be starting to spin too fast right now.
