A Conversation for Talking Point: Mixed-race Relationships

Multiracial and proud of it

I am in a mixed race relationship now: I married the love of my life who is of Jamaican heritage, but who now considers herself Black British, and I am a born and bred Brummie. (if you want to see any wedding pics, there's some online at http://www.bryan-talbot.com/wedding/ - probably of no interest if you don't know me, but what the hell! It was the best day of my life dammit!!!)

I want to make a couple of comments:

- How can us anti racist white people tell other white people that "just cos' I am white don't you DARE think I am a racist!"

- I am SO proud of how many mixed race relationships there are in the UK: to me it is conclusive proof of the relatively good state of race relations here in the UK: I cannot help but think we are doing many things better than the US.

- I have NEVER seen a mixed race child or adult that is anything but beautiful - I mean, look at Halle Berry!!

It gives me an inexpressible surge of joy to think that MY kids will have the benefit and advantages of two cultures, two backgrounds and two traditions - and that here in the UK it is becoming so commonplace as to be unremarked on.

I acknowledge that this is ony possible in a family where both parents stay around, so respect to those mixed race kids from a single parent family who've posted messages here.

Multiracial and proud of it!

- James

My first thought was just that, when I read that every black child born in Britain now has one white parent, of how much better you're
doing over there. It reminded me of one of our statistics that half of all marriages of American jews is to non-jews. Your wedding pictures look like the road to the tomorrow we hope for.

Multi - racial relationships are great, not only because it enables cultural mixing and shows that people are seeing past the skin colour and loving the people within, but any offspring produced shae the genetics of both races, increasing the biological diversity and strengths of our race.

I'm confused... smiley - erm

...that your race relations are going better over there (England)
than over here (US) but anyway, me and my small circle of friends
are pro-integration, equal rights and anti-class, too. I'm white with European/Slavic ancestry and some obscure Cherokee heritage--actually that I'm a socialist and an atheist is more important to me.

No, I was confused at your wording - 'every black child born in Britain now has one white parent'. Believe me, they don't. smiley - smiley

I read the assertion somehow emanating out from this board but I can't find it again, that of half of black children being born with
one white parent--maybe it was defining "black" as only of African descent, or in a certain area, but I believe that I could have read something wrong if you say racial integration isn't that high in England. Too, bad.

No, no, now we're getting in a twist. smiley - silly I really don't know the exact statistics for these things. It's just that here if one is black, one is assumed to have two black parents - I have one Chinese parent and one English parent, and I'm thought of as mixed race - or 'mixed parentage', as goes the new politically correct term. smiley - winkeye

From talking point: mixed relationships--this was right after the Bishop Tutu quote.

"Did you know that 50% of all black children born in Britain have one white parent? Britain currently has one of the highest rates of inter-racial relationships in the Western world, producing a society that is culturally rich and varied. Does this statistic matter? Do mixed race relationships show how multi-cultural Britain and the world is becoming? Or do inter-racial relationships erode cultures? We want to know:"

I was very sad today to see an attractive white woman (pale golden skin, natural blonde hair, blue eyes) with her half black child. this woman has effectively committed suicide as far as passing on her characteristics is concerned. you never see a mixed race child who has straight or blonde hair and you never get that golden dare i say it nordic skin. I think there is less north european people (German, scandinavian etc) in the world than blacks so save yourselves. People e should treasure the way they look and want to pass it on to future generations.

I'm a mixed race child with straight hair... smiley - erm

Is this just flaming? Frankly, I don't really want to dignify what you're suggesting with a reply, but my anger got the better of me. What you are advocating is eugenics, which one really thinks of as an antiquated ideology. Plus, mixed race children have a big advantage in one respect: because we are so out-bred, the gene pool is expanded, and the chances of our developing genetic abnormalities is significantly reduced. The only real disadvantage we have is from narrow-minded people. smiley - sadface

white people should stick up for themselves for a change after all black people are always going on about how they are a dieing breed, well a few of them do in music anyway - but they dont get criticised for it. Personally i dont look north european i look more mediteranean but i recognise and my opinion is that the north european race is the greatest human form. I dont think about this issue all the time i just have strong opinions generally.

you have removed my post and yet it contained no swear words just controversial opinions; I do not see how it can be any different from the last one - you may as well get rid of that one as well. The things i have stated in my posts have been my opinions and i have given reasons for them; other people would realize this as well and should not be offended; if anything laugh at me if you do not want to face up to what some have the strength to believe in.

You have argued for white supremacy and suggest that the progeny of mixed race relationships are somehow less worthy than others. Don't you think those are grounds for offence? smiley - ermsmiley - steam

There is a huge array of different races and if we were all mixed up to look the same it would be a bit of a shame. I was just saying that i did not want my fave one, those lovely, lovely nordics to die out - to me they look the best forget about the ill bred rest. No seriously all races are good at different things - i hear those jolly chaps in kenya are rather god at running.

The 'ill bred rest'? What exactly are you referring to? Really this is all a bit of a daft postulation, seeing as we're all members of the same species, anyway...

Hmmm. The thing is though, mixed races are so much healthier, althouh he does ahve a point about specilisation. Anyway, I think that your language does degrade those of a mixed race.
