March Hare Posted Feb 20, 2002
I'll join up, if only for the hope of learning something.
I have rudimentary skills in black-and white photography with a manual camera, a close call with color photography and slides; I'm not a huge fan of photographic art for the most part, but every once in a while I see something striking, and it's usually in color, which is a pain in the arse to do fully manually, which is how you have to do it if you want it to look really pretty. (The art fair that happens here yearly has some rather nice photos from some rather celever photographers.)
I've taken some cruddy photos, some clichéd photos, and some good photos that were developed by a place that screwed up the final pictures (at least the negatives are OK). What I really want to photograph is the moon, and I need to get up a lot of skills for that.

Hi MH,
Do you want all that written in your description? (it can be done )
You know, taking photos of the moon is sometimes trickey, but you can also get great results by doing simple and inspeakable things.
One h2g2 researcher (Yeliab - I'll find his U number later) just took the camera, put his binocular in front of it, and took the picture.
Took a bit of cropping I think, but it came out a beutiful picture.

Hmm... Let me think of a good intro.... Right now I'm posting to this if only to get it in my "current messages" listing so it doesn't get drowned in backlog again.

I'd like to join, please. Here is my entry:
I use mostly Minolta equipment, currently an Alpha Sweet (Japanese version of an Maxxum Xtsi or Dynax 505si Super) and a Maxxum 7000. I use a 50mm F1.7 and a Tamron 28-200mm F4-5.6 for most pictures. I also use a Fujifilm FinePix 600z digital camera for some pictures (an older generation 1.5 megapixel model). My subjects range from outdoors and nature to the children I teach (mostly based in Japan). My goal is to work my way into motorsports photography, or even into photojournalism. I like broccoli, preferably steamed.
Hack it at will, it looks a little long. I look forward to learning from everybody!
Steve

Hey, no problem. I don't have any pictures currently online, but hopefully I'll have some of them on soon. I need to get them scanned.
I live in Sendai, which is 350km north of Tokyo, so it's pretty far away. In August I'll be back in the States after a school trip in Tokyo from Aug 5-8. That oughta be fun, all 5th graders. This will be my first trip back to the States in a year, so I'm really looking forward to it. I come from eastern Washington state.
I'm going to get a high resolution digital camera as soon as I can come up with the spare yen, but that's pretty reclusive right now. I'm trying to get a hold of some decent lenses for my current stuff.
Ja mata (See ya)

Sign me up! I'm interested in photography, and am currently doing A-level Photography at evening class. I'm interested in both colour and black and white, and process/print both at home (although the colour film processing ain't up to much at the moment!), and am experimenting with other types of printing including lith, infrared, copying on to film, medium format and all sorts of other funky junk. My main camera is a Pentax MX, but I've formally adopted a Zeiss Super Ikonta, and soon going to start experimenting with a Thornton Pickard folding camera (with a 5x4 holder). I've been interested in photography since January this year, and aim to continue my interest with university soon...

I have bought a new camera recently (A Digital SLR), so my printing process is different now.
Talk to you tomorrow,

Sign me up.
I've been takeing photos for about 22 years. I've done freelance and weddings and other photographic grunt-work. I can offer advice to members on equipment, as I've been working in and running camera stores/mini-labs for the last 8 years.
I like to photograph aircraft and architecture. I noticed others mention the cameras they use, so.... I use a Nikon F2a and an F3. And when my wife isn't looking, I use her F4 and F100! (She's got all the high-tech bodies) We've mostly got Nikkor glass. I also keep an old Olympus XA handy for long bike rides.
Also, for the last 4 years, I've been scanning my slides and doing most of my editing and printing myself.

I'm quite the beginned, I've been photographing dance for 2 years, but not as my profession.
I have new gear now, A brand new Digital SLR - the S2 Pro, with a 105 Nikkor and a 28-200 sigma (I bought it for a long trip in which I wanted only one versatile lense). I need to get new lenses now, but am waiting for a budget to come, as I have alot of expenses now, having moved with my girlfriend to our own appartment now...
Other equipment includes lots of storage media, a tripod, SB-26 a dosen filters and 4 kilos of baterries.

I've got a digital camera now; not that I've done anything amazing with it, and I need to get on the ball learnin how to do manual operation, but it takes pretty nice pictures for a lower-level one.
Hm... doesn't look like a lot of activity here lately.....
