I don't know if you meant this only to be about British TV
but in America they had a series called LOST.
They rushed through an ending without answering all the questions, and I wish they could have gone another year.

They had Lost in the UK too. The final season has just finished on satellite TV, which I don't have, so I'm waiting now for it to come out on DVD. My brother, who does have satellite, agreed with your opinion that they didn't really explain anything.
But I'm still looking forward to that last season!

The Promo ( on internet) for the final episode said their will be bonus episodes on the DVD which were never part of the TV schedule.
So you might get more answers than we got.

Lost definitely counts as much missed TV. In our office most people used to watch it when it was on E4 or Channel 4, then Sky nicked it and prevented the common man from watching it ever again (unless they bought the box sets).
