I'm a cyclist! Simon 11376 and I do own a bike (or 2) My favouite is a 12 year old Holdsworth Criterium which I have ridden to Paris (from London with a bit of help from a ferry) 3 times now and a 4th planned for September

Splendid machine - my best bike is a Claud Butler of similar vintage, probably from the same factory. Welcome, Simon

I'm a cyclist!

Also a member of Audax UK. Thinking of cracking out an article on long distance cycling, centred around the loons of the aforementioned club.

A mad band indeed. Some of my mates at Reading CTC have done PBP and London-Endinburgh - I can't say I'm tempted; the last time I did a 100-mile reliability ride I pulled a thigh muscle and was in agony for the second 50 miles, which took my overall time to over 7 hours (6h22 saddle time). I'm not in any great hurry to repeat that!

Mind you, I do have a helmet lamp.....

I'm a cyclist!

Indeedly, and I have a very fine touring bike. And my own copy of Richard's exceedingly useful book.

I also live in Reading, and was thinking of joining the local CTC. I did a reliability ride with Reading RC a couple of yeas ago but fell off the back of the slow group and trundled home in shame!

Would you recommend the Reading CTC? After a lay off last year, I'm just starting to build up mileage again now. Cracking out 50 in about 2hr 40mins, not particularly dazzling I must admit, but am missing riding in groups. Not having a car, it is a little difficult to get to many Audax events. (I know, I know, proper randoneurs would ride to the events....)

Blimey! H2G2 should invade Reading CTC, perhaps on a three seater bike, a la the Goodies. That would be amusing to take around the IDR...

Maybe not...

...but a h2g2 cyclist's meet would be a good idea. smiley - smiley

Yes, I recommend Reading "We Never Leave Anyone Behind" CTC - the Sunday runs are good, and the fast Wednesday ride is a great way to pretend you're not *really* just off to the pub smiley - smiley
