My thoughts on first encountering Twitter were the same - isn't this just drivel background noise, and how on earth can anyone communicate meaningfully using this medium?
But I've grown to like it and see its good points. The hash tag in particular is a useful feature.

I think Twitter may be of some use for those who check it day in day out. For people like me, who only look there once in a while, it's totally useless. I mean, if a friend has made several tweets, there's no point in replying to one of those because it won't show what exactly you're replying to. And I won't tweet from my mobile phone - or check Twitter from any other device than my PC.
