A Conversation for A Muse on Bottled Beers

I'm not a lager drinker, so I can't comment on that, but I feel very isolated down here in that place below London that the world forgets. I can't buy most of the bottled bitters you mention and you have neglected to mention any of the one's that I do see on my shelves smiley - sadface

I am now taking requests for further musings, so I will happily add further beers of your choice.

As to availability, I've seen all but one of the ales sold in either Sainsbury or Tesco in the last 6 months. In fact TT's Landlord seems to be a permanent fixture on the shelves nowadays smiley - ok

smiley - sadface I don't drive so I can't get to the big supermarkets. I used to like Abbot Ale but didn't even know it was made anymore. How about something on Old Speckled Hen (one of my absolute favourites and I think it's another one with yeast in the bottom) and Spitfire (a good Kentish beer with a humorous and controversial advertising campaign)?

Hey there Deackie, GreyDesk smiley - alesmiley - ale.

Geographically challenged is indeed correct - the only scottish beverage mentioned appears to be tenants super. How mal-represented is it possible for a country to get?

NOw I assume many of the bottled ales I am about to mention are pretty hard to get hold of down south (oh how my ears pricked up (so to speak) when I read the "up north" paragraph, oh how I was disapointed), so once my exams are over I shall endeavour to enlighten you guys more, but in the meantime, both of you should make sure you have sampled the following at somepoint:

Caledonain 80 Shilling. (true edinbrugh stalwart, superb)
Golden Promise. (organic, and delightful)
Fraoch Heather Ale (very nippy, the heather overtones are gorgeous, bites, just lovely really)

Deuchars IPA makes a nice alternative to Timothy Taylors too...

back off to work now, catch youse later,
smiley - cheersvp

Someone makes an alternative to Landlord? Don't be so stupid smiley - nahnah

The reason Scottish beer gets ignored is I've only been there about half a dozen times, and never for more than a couple of days. My experience of the beer in the pubs was not a happy one, they all seemed very flat somehow smiley - erm

I have tried Froach (or however you spell it) and I'll include it in the Muse smiley - ok

I came across a bottled beer recently that I was surpised I'd never heard of as it's named after the town I live in. I have a feeling it's a very rare breed though. It's organic and vegan. I wish I'd tried it now. I've just got to remember which pub I saw it sold in smiley - erm

Tried Hen's Tooth too. Marvellous!
