Just to clarify something... I'm not complaining about the continuity of the series when I'm talking about that difference in age...
What I'm thinking is that because the age difference was clearly stressed in the first episode of the series, and has been pretty well ignored throughout the rest of the episodes, I'm wondering if it's going to be important to the final outcome.

The reason why the Cybermen are the 'alternate universe' Cybermen is that it would cost too much budget to redesign and build new suits for 'this universe' cybermen.

Isn't that what I said?
I'm basing it n real world reasons not trynig to show0horn a reason into show canon.

And I've just had a very silly idea of what might happen this weekend...
In the 'Lets Kill Hitler' episode we saw the birth of Riversong... Not just her physical regeneration but the the doctor 'saving' her from her programming and changing the way she thought about the doctor (from 'target' to 'idol')
I wonder if he's going to repeat the act... The 700 year old doctor from last week's episode travels back to the date of his 900 year old alter-ego's death (a fixed point in time so we're told)... He gets hold of Riversong, locks her in a cupboard and climbs into the spacesuit himself...
If someone's got to kill the Doctor, would he let anyone else do it if he had a choice?
I'm just a little suspicious of the way, in Dr Who Confidential, Stephen Moffatt was quite so open in the way he said "Now we know who's inside the astronaut suit".
This could also plug quite easily into 'The God Complex' episode... Could the doctor have seen himself in the his own room when he looked?

Except the end of the programme quite clearly showed River waking up in the astronaut suit underwater.

I'd like to know why, in the American episodes, River didn't seem to know anything about the space-suit or the child. I also want to know what the funny burn marks on Amy's lawn were, and why the Tardis blew up. Or has that already been answered?

>>Except the end of the programme quite clearly showed River waking up in the astronaut suit underwater.
That's OK, she might well start off in the space suit - but that's not to say she can't be taken out of it...

I'd like to know why, in the American episodes, River didn't seem to know anything about the space-suit or the child.:- Presumably because the Silence wiped her mind...or we'll have to wait and see..
I also want to know what the funny burn marks on Amy's lawn were:- Not explained yet.
and why the Tardis blew up:- Not sure whether that was River blowing it up(she did do some blowy up stuff or whether it has yet to be explained.
Or has that already been answered? No! Possibly not!

Underwater? Without anyone noticing? And the Doctor crossing his own timestream?

On the age of the Doctor thing an interesting bit in the Grauniad:-
"The Doctor emotes at the sight of them. How long has it been since he saw them? Have 200 years passed since the events of The God Complex? Or just 100? (A nod to the commenter to this blog who suggested that The Doctor spent 100 years looking for Melody?) Or, as I suggested last week, was he simply lying about his age?"
We obviously don't know howl ong he spent looking for Melody but it realyl could be any amount of time, what with him being a Timelord and all!

Incidentally, I've not commented on the Next Episode Preview because I leave the room as soon as it starts, or just turn off the telly if the remote is immediately to hand. But we've had that debate before, so we'll leave it there.

Incidentally, whatever happened to Sherlock? The received wisdom was that they were splitting this Doctor Who series to put Sherlock in the middle, because it had turned out much more popular than expected. I even made a point of buying the first lot on DVD so I could catch up before the new ones appeared; but no-show.
I think it's safe to assume that they're still coming up, but when?

hygienicdispenser Posted Sep 28, 2011
Sherlock: sometime next year, I think. It was mentioned in the Radio Times a few weeks back, but I can't remember the details. I do remember thinking "oh, that's a long wait". Incidentally, one of the things that bugged me about Sherlock (am I the only person who found it unsatisfying?) was something that an earlier poster here found annoying about Closing Time. Namely the running 'joke' of people assuming that Holmes and Watson were gay partners. Usually for no reason whatsoever. It always just seemed clumsy, and intruded in the 'suspension of disbelief'.

I think the BBC have decided that it makes them all hip and progressive or something. "Look!" they cry "We're embracing this whole gay malarkey!"
"Episode 1 - we see a 900 year old doctor get killed, straight after this, a 700 year old doctor turns up and the series gets underway.
So, the series progresses with a 700 year old doctor, and nowhere do we get even a hint that the doctor's been off on a 200 year sabbatical between episodes.
So, when, in the last episode, we're led to believe that the doctor is one day away from the events that took place in episode 1 (in his own personal time-line) then somewhere within the series the producers have been cleverly hiding a 200 year 'gap year'....
Anyone any ideas what the doctor's been doing for 200 years?"
I think you're underestimating Moffat if you think he'd miss explaining something that significant. Moffat did a pretty good job of fitting 2,000 years into Rory's character in the last series finale so I wouldn't discount the possibility.
So your question suggests to me that The Doctor somehow avoids his death at 900 years old, whittles away 200 years doing something or other, then comes back in time to get killed at 1,100. (Those are my memory of the ages but either way the point is applicable).
As I recall Moffat was going to use this series to get around the regeneration limit with something clever but simple.
