It's also interesting that the Doctor runs off just as Amy wakes up at the end.

On the one hand you could see that as him giving them some personal time, but you could also see it as him avoiding the long and difficult conversation that will then follow. A conversation that starts with the words "Where is she?"

I agree Geggs. The Doctor isn't proud of the deception, and is pushing the responsibility of telling Amy onto Rory. I wonder what the opening of the next episode will be. There's probably a lot of broken trust to heal.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

I think Moffat has started a much better exploration of the emotional interactions between Doctor and Companion than RTD did. It's covering the whole spectrum rather than just the simplistic "nice girls fall in love with the Doctor" thing.

Yup, that beats the Doctor saying 'Fear me, I killed them all'

*a post of mine lazily copied from another (inferior) forum*

People saying Rory is a tin-dog and just not being given a good enough part...as you'll see below I think both the character and Darvill's portrayl is superb...

As for Rory...Arthur Darvill's always played him superbly...Rory is such a subtley written character being a pivot for a lot of episode and holding them together...like any good straightman you don't realise how good they are because you are watching the comic..but it's the straight man who is holding the performance together...i.e. Ernie Wise, Nicholas Parsons, they allowed Morcambe and Haynes to shine but held them back on track and you never noticed it happened...that is what Rory does and Darvill plays it superbly well it's easier to over-act than reign in the performance and he could go for it more with his character and it would still work but not as well.

Rule 1: the Dr lies...and he lied to save (Young) Amy as he knew old Amy would have all the all hte human need to survive and not die and not have all those 37years of experience disappear...he did it for young and old Amy in the end and really in the end he had to pass the decision to...Old Amy...because really...in the end...(old) Amy...Amy..knew the only way...the right way...the way Young (Amy), Rory and the Dr had set out to do at the start was to save Amy.

Just a damn shame the paradox couldn;t be thwarted...old and young Amy together smiley - drool...Rory would have been like a pig in **it.

I think one Amy is hard enough for him to handle. And my word, the jealousy between the two Amy's would have killed them all in the first ten minutes! smiley - laugh

so, it has to asked
Warrior Amy Pond vs. River Song, who would win? (Yes, he would, I know...)

Give Warrior Amy a bit more time out of the Facility, or Drop River in there without her gun, and I reckon Amy'd give river a run for her money, mother to daughter. Plus, her being 36 years older would make her a more appropriate age to be River's mum so it'd fit quite well, in a strange sort of way.

Sadly, River would win easily. Old Amy has grit and aggression, but she'll be in her late 50s and not so spry. This is especially a problem given that she wields a melee* weapon and not a gun. She'd tire quickly, if she managed to survive that long.
Also, although she appears to have plenty of fighting experience, it's very situation-specific, and she would have trouble adapting the fighting style she uses on near-defenceless automatons to a more adaptive, fast-moving target.

* This computer's spell-checker doesn't even have the word "melee" in it. That's simply substandard.smiley - geek**
** It doesn't have the word "geek" either. Poor, very poor.

If that really is Rory and Amy written out, I think that would be a brilliant way to do it. Beautiful and low key.

We knew the Dr had to go, alone, to his death at some stage of the series. This seems to be a story of how he left his companions. Rory and Amy, being who they are, I expect will find a way to save him, since they know where and when he is going.

I liked the Minotaur, except that the Dr, in the knowledge of what he had to do to release his companions, really did end up saving the day, as usual. I realised immediately that the Minotaur was talking about the Dr and not himself at the end.

Still a mystery where Dr2 comes from. The one who does not know he is to die. Flesh? robot? Some sort of dream? IDK

What do you mean the one who doesn't know he's going to die? Do you mean in The Impossible Astronaut? The Doctor there seemed to know what was going on because he asked them not to interfere.

My thoughts generally are here http://wp.me/pLq5j-bt
In a nutshell, I didn't really like it. It was fun enough but I didn't really get the backstory of the spaceship that was hoovering people up to feed on faith and feed the monster. Didn't seem to gel. The bit at the end's interesting though. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what'll happen next week and beyond.

"I didn't really get the backstory of the spaceship that was hoovering people up to feed on faith and feed the monster"

Yeah, that was a bit nonsensical, really.

Did anyone else do a little SQUEE when the Doctor said "cousins of the Nimon"?
