yes, cast list is rather interesting. Especially some of the new characters
And...this isn't an RTD series! Just cos RTD did it, doesn't mean SM will. In fact quite the opposite I suspect.

Just one other thing I noticed: late on, when the Doctor and Amy came out of the Tardis to a panoramic view of cataclysmic events in the village, the shot seemed to be an almost exact copy of one from the end of Tennant's Vesuvius episode. Don't know whether any significance should be attached to that. Perhaps it's even another of these cost-saving results, using a layout they've already got worked out in frotn of a green-screen backdrop...

Interesting point. So the status is not unknown because the computer did not contain the information, but rather because the issue is unresolved, possibly involving conflicting facts due to the altered timeline.
Hmmm.

I enjoyed it yet it could also easily rate as the dullest of all-time!

Must ring that BBC helpline... 'Hello? I'm a vegetarian and was most distressed by the death of the giant invisible space chicken..'
Doctor Who
Giford Posted Jun 5, 2010
That helpline had me in stitches too. Who was it for - people terrorised by invisible aliens? People who are undiscovered or unappreciated artistic geniuses?
It was a really good ep, one of the best this season so far... and yet, still not a *classic*.

Easily my favourite of the current run.
Despite the eye candy and some good character work, I've been really disappointed with this series so far.

I wouldn't go as far as 'really disappointed', but I would agree that this series has lacked any really outstanding episode that kicks the whole series into life. No 'Empty Child', 'Girl in the Fireplace', 'Silence in the Library' or 'Human Nature' - in fact, just the things that Moffat used to be so good at...

Amy's Choice has been about the best of the bunch for me so far.

I think part of the oddness of this year is getting used to Matt Smith's portrayal. It's a far more random Doctor than we've had for any time since Colin Baker, but a fair bit nicer than he was.
This Doctor has a tendency to talk first and think later.
"And then I'll do a thing."
"What thing?"
"Don't know. I haven't stopped talking yet. Respect the thing."
And then to think second and consider implications later.
He says in a really excited way, cus he's just worked it out, "She's got an Angel in her mind!" And then clamps his hands over his mouth because that's actually a really bad thing, and he said it in a really happy way.
Err, yeah.. I've just re-watched the Weeping Angels two-parter.

It's a good analysis.
Personally I've the plots/explanations have mostly been too complicated. Perhaps part of that difficulty is that TD/MS doesn't explain them well because of the reasons Geggs gives.

really good episode. I don't normally like the 'people centric' ones but that was rather well done. Man we missed out on Nighy as The Doctor though

I really enjoyed it. It was a 'sit back and watch' episode, with no hand-wavy explanations for stuff that didn't fit, and nothing that seemed too outlandish.
That in itself means that it's about the only episode so far that hasn't broken my immersion. Nothing breaks immersion like hand-wavy explantions, which I hate with a passion. If you can't explain it, either leave it out, don't mention it, or just get a better bit of plot ).
The new Doctor still makes me smile and even Amy managed to not irritate me.
Oh, Nighy...

Have to say though, Croatia? Really? Could they not have got that episode done in Wales and used the money better elsewhere? Seriously, the shows budget is making parts of this series look a bit pre-Eccleston (and the opening title sequence looks like it was a quality reject from the 80s movie). Enough with the orange too, while we're at it.

Geggs Posted Jun 7, 2010
I suspect going to Croatia may actually have been a better use of money, when its all added up, otherwise why do it? They were in Croatia for Vampires in Venice too, weren't they? If they did the filming for both episodes together then that would have saved on the travel expenses.

Not a bad episode, I suppose. Better than some of the "Doctor meets historical figure" episodes, but hardly a triumph. It suffers considerably by comparison to the Channel 4 drama about Van Gogh from a couple of years ago, which I presume a decent number of Who fans will have seen since Van Gogh was played by John Simm .
It had flashes of brilliance admittedly, but that's almost par for the course on Who these days. I rather appreciated how Vincent's difficult side was portrayed, and that they managed to show some of his brilliance, rather than just talking about it.
Btw, I'm not keen on shortening "the Doctor" to TD. It just doesn't seem right.

At least shorten it to tD rather than TD...
