This is a nice start Dr M. There are a few places where sentence structure etc will need to be tidied up but let's look at the info first.
Do you want to mention the BNP?
Perhaps you could mention some other words or phrases which also have this meaning, if you can find any?
Why has the term gone from describing someone very reasonable (wanting to withdraw from places we don't belong) to someone who is just insular and doesn't care about anything other than their own country?
You say it's come to refer to middle-class ignorance. What about the other classes? What do we call their ignorance? 
Just a few things to consider for the minute

If you remove this from the EGWW and put it into the Flea Market instead, someone else might take it up for you

Go to the EGWW main page, here Writing-Workshop
YOu should see your Entry and a little x after it.
Click of the cross.
This removes it from the EGWW.
You can then submit it to the Flea Market by clicking on the submit for review button on the Entry and choosing Flea Market
