Possible candidate for mini-Friday half way up North meet here
If I come all the way up to Glasgow my vote goes for laser thingy or skating
(even if I did knock myself out the last time I tried that
)
Still, all excuses for a bit of to numb the bruises I suppose

Phil Posted Oct 9, 2001
If that's the case then I could be persuaded to travel on the train via manchester...

I can.
Someone suggested to me that it would enable to be consumed en-route. Other than for the driver of course.
We could hang scarves out the window and sing very loudly too.

Phil Posted Oct 9, 2001
I'd need to get a scarf in that case Singing loudly is not a problem.
the thing is why I don't mind only being able to drive cars now

Okay... so how many more researchers do we need to make hiring a minibus for the weekend a financially viable option?
* to do search for Mancunians*

Ok, so looks like Laserquest has a few votes in favour then.
What about eats. Xmas lunch was mentioned, or possibly xmas dinner, post LQ and pre Mucho . If so where? Would people be happy with pub grub? Bound to be vegeterian options. Most places I have been to for xmas dinner has a very poor veg. option. If it is pub grub, that puts us at ordering and eating by 7 or 7.30pm in some places.
Both the Counting House and the Old Printworks do food (tried and tasted good haunts) with decent ales too, close to LQ and Travel Inn. Any other eatery suggestions or places to imbibe alcohol?
Anyone?

Does anyone know any contacts for hostels and the like (trying to do this as cheaply as poss)

slarty Posted Oct 11, 2001
If it's the youth hostel you're looking for, it's at Park Terrace which is OK for both the city centre and the west end.
The phone number is 0141 332 3004 or 0870 155 3255
Their site seems to be down just now so I can't post it or the Golgafrinchams'll remove it. A search on google for "youth hostel glasgow" will get you the cached page though.

Another decent pub in town is the Oirish warren whose name temperarily esca ... oh no wait, its called Waxy O'Connells (or O'Conners, I don't know, I'd been drinking at the time). It had reasonable food and a number of wee roomlets such that we could maybe take over one, drive out the unbelievers and hide the unconcious Jamie out of the way of nosy bar staff. Its just off George Square, so ain't any real distance.

Mrs V Posted Oct 11, 2001
Yeah, my fave pub being a train ride out of town. Skint people could slip my mum some cash and use her floor, It wouldn't be the first time, tho granted that has happened less often since I moved out!

Phil, I've updated the page to include links to accommodation, hostels and the likes. The Ibis hotel is quite reasonably priced at £35prpn, but anyway the links are there.
