The new H2G2 is coming?
Icy North Posted Nov 11, 2010
If you insist
C'est un peu comme quand David Gower a déclaré: "Les Indiens de l'Ouest sera trembler dans leurs bottes"

Thanks for that, Icy North.
Now - what are you talking about? Who's this Gower bloke, and why is West Indian footwear of interest to him? This is a genuine enquiry, as I'm assuming Kea's is.

I thought it might be a cricket reference, but had no idea if it was complimenting h2 or insulting it

Oh. Cricket. No wonder I didn't get it.

A bad mistake from me. Sorry.
The new H2G2 is coming?
Icy North Posted Nov 11, 2010
That's the one
Gower wasn't being serious, of course. He was alluding to Tony Greig's earlier boast in 1976 that he would make the West Indies "grovel".

Both Greig's and Gower's teams were soundly thrashed.

Sorry, it's late, and I'm still not getting it. Are you saying that Sam saying h2 is still brilliant and we could lead the way again is akin to Gower saying (with self-deprecating irony) that the West Indies should be quaking in their boots and then the English getting thrashed by them? Asin, wiki thrashing us or summat?
I really liked what Sam said.

Yes, I thought it was a very bold claim, considering that h2g2 hasn't undergone any significant redesign since before I joined in 2003.
I hope he's right, but he's setting the bar pretty high.

I see where you're getting at Icy.
A new design is great, and a very positive sign of things to come, but unless there is significant actual change (apart from cosmetic) we're not going to grow and thrive. Narrowing the focus of the EG, or overhauling the entire revision process, or even the Peer Review system... who knows what changes may be ahead!

*Nods*
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Moving away from slow death by irrelevance would be a perfectly good ambition to start with.

shagbark Posted Nov 11, 2010
but when I see an announcement that says things like
'What we'll be showing you next week is...' my response is
they mean soon , but I very much doubt if we will be seeing it in the next seven days. h2g2 has a history of coming out with things late.

It's called 'art', RF. You wouldn't understand...
The new H2G2 is coming?
Vip Posted Nov 11, 2010
Not yet.
My theory is that that was the original name (as it's short for the HHGG acronym), but when it was used in the www.h2g2.com URL it became lower case. It's not shouting, it's just a return to HHGG. Shame we're had over 10 year to get used to h2g2.
I guess this might mean that they'll be unveiling a new logo too? *gulp*

Did someone say "new logo"?

They certainly said that the new Read-Only demo would be available some time this week.

That leaves them until Sunday at midnight, and even a bit later if they decide the 'week' should be counted in the Australian time zone.
