Lufthansa the German airline people dealt with strikers in their inflight catering department in a way that would please bosses everywhere, they sacked the entire workforce and replaced them, then had the protesters arrested for tresspassing

I posted yesterday, without knowing what was going on. Then was utterly confused as to why I would have been pre-moderated. This phrase in particular made me stop and wonder just what it was I'd done wrong "The Researcher who posted it is currently being pre-moderated, so all new Postings they make must be checked before they become visible."

This is what I get for logging on and going straight to my postings without looking at the front page I guess. smiley - blush

That's shocking, Reefgirl! Bloody capitalist pigs!

Mind you, I was once a 'bloody capitalist pig' in a play, but that doesn't mean I actually sympathise with them.

Reefgirl - your journal will appear soon - I am sure the mods are working flat out to go through the list of pending messages that have been posted during the premod time - even though it has probably meant quite a build for them smiley - ok

Should have kept sifting through them all day then there wouldn't be a backlog now

And as for German efficiancy, bloody good for them, the new workforce at Lufthansa knew where they stood

And wasn't it a German 1,2,3 at Monaco this weekend as well as a second place for Nick Hiedfeld

Reefgirl,

"the new workforce at Lufthansa knew where they stood"

The inference from this is that the new workforce didn't stand; they knelt.

Can I just make a comment -

BBC may have been on strike till now - but Jimster is online even though he is probably at work tomorrow.

Never let it be said that the italics don't care about the site.

Lady Scott

I posted late yesterday afternoon - oh, I'd say it was about 11:45 your time (5:45 Eastern US, where I am). I was well aware of the strike, and didn't intend to post during it, but since we were *told* the strike wouldn't even begin until 12:01 British time, I figured I had at least a good 15 minutes left.

WRONG!

Sorry, guys - next time it'd be helpful if you let us know several hours ahead of time that you're planning on closing up shop earlier than previously announced. smiley - winkeye

I never shall!

I do appreciate it that they kept the place open for us, even on premod, and even though I went into sympathy strike.

Seriously, if I was an Italic, I'd care! Hell, I'm passionate enough about the place already.

Mommy, I wanna be an Italic when I grow up!smiley - smiley

Ah, but the mods are at least partly outsourced.

Still, can't blame them.

I wouldn't have posted at all if I had known about the strike in advance. Probably would've lurked though, having nothing better to do while I'm at home with the flu.

They may have been involved in the unions in the strike though and chosen to get involved - I dunno, i am just guessing!

I agree - I came on to check messages at 11.30pm yesterday thinking I had time and it was on premod. Confused me a bit too.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

I honestly can't understand why *anybody* who knew about the action decided to post *anything* to a conversation during the period of the strike (and 30 minutes either side) knowing it would be premoderated. I'm at even more of a loss to understand why the same people would try to post an entry, journal or otherwise cos it too would have to be read by the Mods before appearing.

This website is important to me and I spend a lot of time here, but I have other things to do besides h2g2, and if there are more strikes I'll refrain from posting on those dates too.

It may be, like me, they couldn't figure out what was going on. I posted to a thread I'd been on for a while and it came up pre-moderated. Not having looked at the front page or the announcements I didn't know about the strike and didn't understand why I'd been pre-moderated. I thought I'd done something wrong.
So I then posted at FAQ to find out what it was. Only after that did I think it may not be just me, and I went to check the front page.

BTW, is anyone else having problems with the server? It keeps 'timing out when trying to contact bbc.co.uk'.

Cat-Eyes: No..... why.... ?

I posted a few times unable to figure out what was going on because I was home sick and since I've been so snowed under with homework recently I hadn't seen this announcement and it had been buried far down in my threads. I also live in Australia so we don't actually get told that the BBC is going on strike.

In fact, only figured out what was going on when one of the english h2g2ers on my MSN list came on...

So I apologise for contributing on a strike day, but I didn't know!

Cat
