Ok... it's been a couple of weeks now and I must say, I'm not, overall, happy with the changes. I'm missing having 5 new articles a day to read. I miss the 'Month of H2G2' page (if it's still around someplace it's very hard to find) for when I miss a day or two. And I've also noticed that the conversations I'm on have almost dried up so I don't think I'm the only one not happy. It just makes me sad that outside forces have messed with my happy little home here. I'm going to stick with it here as long as I can to see if it perks back up, but I must say my optimism is flagging.

Yeah, I'll second most of that. I can understand the BBC not wanting to 'waste' 7 members of staff keeping h2g2 running full time, but I think that the current system has been pruned a little bit too much.

give it time, the bugs in the single sign on system are I think the big problem and they have/are being fixed
and check out U230056 if ya missing the "Month of H2G2" page

SSo and authentication are still a problem. Last night, when trying to post my Journal I kept getting redirected to a page saying "Sorry, you can't have a journal if you're not logged on!", while going to any other page gave me a cheery "Hello Peet42!" in the top corner, so clearly I was already logged on.

I just had a similiar problem trying to reply on another convo. I was clearly logged in... I had previewed my reply SERVERAL times (but not quite enough as I had several grammatical and punctuational errors when I was finally able to post it.. I was just so happy to be able to post it I didn't care anymore). But yeah, on the first several attempts I was told I had to log in first (Thank Bob for the back button). Oh... errors I can deal with... they can be fixed, but the 'climate' has definitely changed and that's what I'm really worried about.

as I said give it time, it will take a wee while for things to settle, hootoo has had problems in the past & most likely will do in the future but so far it has always managed to bounce back

Spelugx. I guess I never looked at the URL for Month so I was only really missing the path I used to take to find it (frontpage/read more/month).
I'm not giving up yet, trust me, I've just lost some optimism. I don't have a warm cuddly feeling about the changes yet.

That's quite a coincidence. I just went to <./>month</.> via the communicate page (link at top of screen) before checking my message list. It isn't something I'd normally do at all. h2g2 is still hopelessly treacle-like though. Or perhaps the white mice running round inside are tired.

Nor am I. Nor did I have any problems with SSO. But Count Zero expresses my sentiments exactly - it's just not the same.
Too many people coming in and not shutting the door behind them.
for everyone who remembers when it was all goo. (Have just been to check out Count Zero - great PS! Love it!!! )
Key: Complain about this post
