Tube - the being being back for the time being

Just to defend the Eds... I remember that thing being discussed at length some time ago (maybe even right after the BBC takeover). So it's not a new interpretation of the rules. smiley - smiley

Unless it was just before the BBC took over, in which case, if it was on a long thread, it'll still be lost in moderation hell... smiley - monstersmiley - run

Can't think that the Eds had a problem with URLs and Nicks pre-BBC

As far as I know, all *entries* from pre-BBC have been vetted (the unkindest cut of all smiley - yikes) but there are still threads being worked through. They're going in reverse order of start date, so those threads which were most popular (i.e. longest) will be the last to return. smiley - wah

Oh well, guess moderation works both ways. If you can't come up with a link, I can say that the discussion never took place smiley - winkeye

There's far too much crap in nicknames anyway.

Tube is right, the URLs in nicknames thing did come up as part of the moderation debate in the weeks after Rupert. But as that debate was so long and ranged over so many threads, I doubt whether I'd be able to find anything now.

What I can say is that this policy has been in action for some considerable time, as I had my nickname reset to U165955 back in May (?) last year, specifically because it had an URL in it.

Hi all,

Robert - if we failed postings for being excessively sarcastic, half the unedited Guide would disappear! smiley - winkeye

The House Rules used to contain a clause on URLs in nicknames, but it appears that this got removed when the House Rules were revised. While I cannot find a discussion on this between the Community and the Editors, can I point you to F63734?thread=103312&post=1184639#p1184639 in which SubCom states that the House Rules are clear on this point.

I haven't lost my marbles.

I keep them in an old vaseline jar in my wardrobe.

(no really, I do.)

You took out the vaseline beforehand, though...?
