Dear Trillian's child An excellent euggestion and far more democratic!. I see that the powers that be have accepted your idea. Those entries which receive the lowest votes could also be mentioned. I find that I am invariably drawn and interested by them!! It is nice to talk to you again. Best wishes. AR1

I don't like the vote idea much. Think E2. (www.everthing2.com) - it leads to competing entries on the same subject and tends to punish newbies.

There are 4079 entries out there. The ones with the fewest votes would have none. To many would have none on this voting system idea.
6 researchers out there have over 1% off the entries to themselves as solo entries. This is not counting their collaborative entries. one of them is actually in Anna's first selection.
There are a number of wise old birds out there who could easily select five and not from thier list of friends. My work on the list of researchers neams I have seen the vast majority of entries and several do delay me as I go through for a quick skim as straight off they catch my eye and many are by people I rarely pump into in forums.
The desert island approach is good.

Not sure about the voting idea. All the edited entries are good, do we really need to rate them?

voting's been suggesteed loads of times before and poo pooed every time. (once at least by myself and i wasnt the first by any means)
i reckon a hit counter would be a much better plan.

Yeah, another way for people to ego surf - 'Look at how many U-page hits I got today!'

Yep. The clever people'll turn it off. Then again, if people come round to check the number - it'll at least increase!
Whoami?

Personally, I couldn't care less how many people visit my U page. What is the point? Isn't it just good to use it as an 'operations centre' without advertising it?

Okay, seeing that Anna has unsubscribed from her Askh2g2 thread at F19585?thread=167060 I gather that it can be put into the archives now.

I haven't become a borg - promise! Someone thought that having an Anna's/Sam's/Ashley's selection was a bit cliquey. I didn't think so, I thought it was a bit of fun, but there you go... It might change back, you never know - watch this space!

'Our Favourite entries this week' sounds a bit like the list will only have entries from this week in it. Preferred the Desert Island Entries version
