Which do we prefer? November 3rd or 10th?

I've asked my hotel connection her opinion on it for best rates and availability and such. As soon as she gets back with me on that I'll post it, though it may not matter to her either.
She is definitely willing to work with us on this. Plus another hotel rep wandered into my web today so I'll compare the deals.

It was pointed out to me that the marathon is the first weekend in November so the second is looking like a winner. I need to find out who is coming to NYC and of those who will need rooms so I can arrange the hotel. Also rates go down about the second week in December so that might be an option, and will give people more time to plan and allow some holiday shopping.
Once I have numbers I'll have more negotiating power on the rates and such. Part of what I'm requesting is that a portion of the hotel charges be donated to the September 11th Fund. I'll be donating what would ordinarily be commissionable to my company and am trying to get the hotel to donate from their side as well.

Most dates sound fine with me. I will not be needing a hotel room though, since I live here on the fair isle of Manhattan already.

I also won't need a hotel room, I'll be staying with a friend in the area.

Well this makes my job easy. Which is probably a good thing because the ships being diverted from the NYC port is starting to make me . Or rather, more
than usual.
I'll start a new thread for those needing rooms so we can get an accurate count.Either way, as stated I'll donate 100% of any commission (if there is any, depends on the rate and number of rooms) to the September 11th Fund and will try to get the hotel do donate a bit too.

So my guess is that we are going for the 10th. Do we have any idea what activites we would like to do?

10th works for me... I guess.. Since I live here just about any time works for me...
I'm open for suggestions. If everyone likes jazz we can go for and
at Cleopatra's Needle and/or
and
at Gray's Papaya. Or we can just get
and
at someplace and have fun.

Don't forget to keep in mind there are those among us (like me, and others) who are underage. I haven't got problems with drinking but some establishments have problems with me.

Hmm. I could go either way. The underage thing is sometimes not to much of a problem here in NY. Unless you are 10 or 11 they will usually let you in but you just shouldn't drink. I am not sure how many people are up for it but we could try a comedy club or something like that.

Well, there goes my idea of a trip to Veselka's for Pierogies than a stagger through the dive bars of the East Village and then a return to Veselka's for blintzes...

Actually that sounds like a lot of fun, Mr. C.
In deference to the underage researchers I'm sure we can find hangouts that allow underage in but just don't serve them.
What's the name of the place near the Pink Pussycat that has the killer wings? I can't remember the name but I think it's owned by the same people that have Jake's Dilemma on the UWS.
Granted it's really loud in there (and crowded) but it might be an option. Cheap and junk food. Woohoo!!

either day is good for me. If it's a whole weekend thing I will be needing a room. I'm up for any activities. we should definatley keep in mind not everyone is of legal age on where we go.

Aye, either day is okay. The 10th is probably best, though, since it'll give us all a little more time to prepare. Also, I'm 18, and I guess a few others are, as well. So, yeah, the alcohol part shouldn't be central to the fun. Basically meaning no pub crawls.
Jazz is good, though, and so are comedy clubs. I'm sure there must be lots of jazz or comedy joints in NYC which'll serve drinks and still allow minors to enter. Not to mention any of the other activities in New York (don't ask me, I've only spent two nights there in my entire life).

Once we have an Idea where we might be heading and where the hotel for the people who are coming out of town is going to be that should make it much easier to pick a starting (meeting) location. Any thoughts?

Batty_ACE Posted Oct 3, 2001
The hotel will depend on the date (I'm assuming the 10th for now) as far as who I can weasel a decent rate from. My choices are the Southgate Tower (east midtown area), the Washington Jefferson (hell's kitchen area) and a hotel called Thirty Thirty. I think its in the Kips Bay/Murray Hill area. The lowest rates will be thirty thirty, however I hear they don't have private baths in all rooms

The 10th sounds good to me. But the 3rd is also okay. It's definitely a good idea to avoid the marathon weekend, though--aside from hotel rates, it's a severe, severe pain in the rear to get in and out of the city on that day, for those of you are coming in from other places.
On where to meet: there have to be a million and one bars in NYC that don't care whether or not underage people go to them. I don't think I've been to one in years that cares. I propose that we don't get too bent out of shape about which place we meet at; we should just pick a place that's easy to find where we can all eat and get to know each other, and then take it from there. Mr. C, if you think Veselka's will fit us, let's meet there. Selfishly, I haven't been there yet and have wanted to go for, oh, I don't know, two years.
That's my .02. Hope to see you all soon.
