Dear Prof.

I read the story of your youth with tears in ny eyes. What a tale of heroism, bravery and sheer B....y guts.

As a radiographer I occasionally had to xray cases such as yours. I was always in tears about it.

You make all my silly aches and pains look like pinpricks. those were really the days when there was so much experimentation going on.

I salute you. You are really a hero and an example to us all.

Thank you for writing your experience. I expect it was jolly difficult to relive it, but I admire your courage in being able to be so totally in control of yourself when telling it.

You are a great example to me and I hope that you will this time let me be your friend.

With great respect and admiration,

Christiane

Christiane, I thank you so kindly for your comments, they are truly appreciatedsmiley - smiley
As you were a radiographer, my mam and grandma sometimes had to take me from my town of Pontefract to Leeds General 3 times per week for X Rays, my folder was rather thicksmiley - laughsmiley - laugh. They found out about my back etc at 2 yr old, but didn't start doing anything till I was 4 yrs and that carried on up to my 17 yr.
As no doubt you will have read some of my daft stuffsmiley - winkeyeyou will see that life to me is one big jokesmiley - biggrin
It wasn't actually hard to write, as those memories are now way in the past and being negative, I don't do negativesmiley - smiley

I have said this to many a person, my role in life is to bring smiles where there are frowns or sadness or inner strength needed and if any event in my life can attain that, I will use everyone possible to achieve my aimssmiley - smiley

my very dear friend Prof/

well I am glad that you did read the end. !!!

I am off today again to see what I can do for my son. It is always easier to deal with one's own problems than with those of one's children. Therefore, may I belatedly send my good wishes and affection to your Mum and your Nan. They were also saints the way they did that for you, and also brought you up to love and not to look negatively at the very big cross you have had to bear. !!

I am sure there is a lesson in that for me. !!

Incidentally you would never "butt" into a conversation....that is the whole point that one likes the attitude and that is how one meets super people. Incidentally I loved the photo with your little sister. I am not surprised that your Mum wanted you to keep it. !!

With all good wishes, my dear friend,

Christiane.

slight up date Christiane, my nan died when I was 11 yrs old, my mam is 83 at the momentsmiley - smileyalthough you wouldn't know it, the way she gets aboutsmiley - biggrin

at a young age, I wasn't allowed to use my "back" as an excuse for anything, it was "if at first you don't succeed etc" and "there isn't such a word as CAN'T"

It was a detriment in my youth, as to hurtful words and holding back on job prospects, I started out as a joiner, went on in time to be a television engineer and then in to the chemical industry. Followed by redundancy and then 18 years this October coming, being a single parent of boy (24 this year)and a girl (23 this year) 6 and 5 years at time of divorce (she played about and went off with one)

and as for the butting in smiley - winkeyewith this thread, we now have our own one to onesmiley - smiley

Hi Prof.

And we are both on line together !! I have just come back from seeing K. my son.

It was a good visit, and I hope that I am able to go again tomorrow and then perhaps get him out of hospital, and either come to me before we find him somewhere permanent, or for him to go straight to somewhere where I think he will be both respected and cared for.

I am sorry about my gaffe with your Mum. Well, I think that your Gran must be another fesity person like me. !! She is only by very little my senior. !! I would like to meet her.

So you have two lovely children. Well done my friend. I have such a nice taxi driver who takes me to the hospital. He has also got an interesting history, and he is so incredibly kind to me. Sadly, without K. here to help, I really am unable to travel by rail by myself. People will help, but I do not think that one should expect it. That is what I love about this coastal channel port where I live. Not only can I breathe, but also the residents do not look at me as if I crawled out of cheese. Nor do they only talk to my carer who is pushing my wheelchair. They chat to me as well which is very warming.

Anyway, on Tuesday life is going to change, because I have invested in a second hand wheelchair. guaranteed for a year, and it looks good. The problem is that I am very nervous of going out on my own. !! Anyway, I shall just have to gain the courage to do it.

Well, dear friend, go well, and now we can have nice chats.

Sincerely,

Christiane

Hi Prof,

OMG gaffe after gaffe....

Tes. I shall try not to break the speed limit in my electric wheelchair!!. Apparently I can go for 12 hours on the battery. But it is better to keep them fully charged after using them. . It even went up a hill when I was "test driving" it.

I am beginning to look forward to having it.

Go well,

Christuabe

when you go out in the chair, have a cover of sorts because it's surprising how cold it can be on your legs. I have a friend who has to use a chair and even at a few miles per hour cause a chilling to him
