Talking Point: Is The Movie Ever Better Than The Book?

48 Conversations

Most of us have read books that we've really enjoyed only to be deeply disappointed by the movie version.

Why is that good books can't be made into great movies? Or can they?

  • Can you think of one instance when the film was actually an improvement on the book?

  • Directors often change the ending in the film version. Is this ever a good thing?

  • Does the order in which you read the book or view the film effect your appreciation?

  • How much does it depend on the subject matter? Are some things best left to the imagination?
