This is my first article on h2g2. Since there was already a (brief) article on Midland, I have incorporated some of the original writing, added the other author's name, and submit this article as an update.

As this is an update it should be written in guideml, does anyone want me to do that and then send it back to the author?

Anyone famous come from Michigan who could be mentioned?

Yes, it should be in GuideML. Do that, convert the headers to lowercase with initial capital letters, and put the picture from the original entry into it.

The updated Entry no longer mentions breast implants so won't the original picture look a little strange?

good point, haven't got round to doing the photo just yet.

Have done laying out of info, and am doing the links atm as well as fixing a few mistakes.

Any thoughts?

That would be helpful, I do not know GuideML yet. Famous Midlanders include the architecht Alden B. Dow; Herbert H. Dow, the founder of Dow Chemical; Cathy Guisewite, cartoonist (draws "Cathy"). I must admit, I do not particularly like the picture from the original article; I suggest incorporating this one of the tridge. UNfortunataly pictures for the EG have to be provided by h2g2, i'll look for one in the archives.

Thx for the photo in any case cause i was really confused over what they were, i'll link it in directly.

Dont worry about the guideml, when you write new entries the subbies can do it for you if you don't know it yourself.

And dont tell the others but I like writing guideml - being a I feel competent when it all comes out looking sparkly.

Hi everybody,

I know the problem with pictures is due to possible copyright infringement but I understand you can use your *own* photos or drawings (eg A57720440 (photo), A942572 (drawing)). But that might be making things unduly complicated.

Copy everything thats within the to tags (one at the beginning and one at the end of the entry).

Go to your version and edit it.

At the bottom of the page select "GuideMl" and press "change style".

Inside the two body tags that will appear, paste in what you've copied and then tell it to update your entry.

And then you can see how i've done.


Sorry for the rather complicated explanation, ive not been around long either so im not the best at explaining things.

Slow down everybody. Updates are treated slightly differently from the normal Entries in PR. Gnomon is a sub-editor and he is giving his advice as to what is needed next.

In an Update the blob from the original Guide Entry is expected to be used, this is different to the new Entries which have to wait until the Editors assign a picture to them.

Redshirt, you need to change the page from Plain to Guide ML, this link might help you out: A986691

Did you notice the blob on the first entry? the breast is bigger than Midland....

As breast implants are no longer discussed could there by a case for changing the picture in this specific case?

None of my business perhaps but the previous blob would appear rather strange on the Updated Entry IMHO.

Yes, that would be a good reason for not using the original blob. The advice you and Nbb are giving is good.

I am hoping more sub-eds will come in to give their advice before we lose a potentially good researcher. New Entries are daunting enough without the added pressure of creating an Updated version.

Let's not drown our newbie before he's learned to float, eh?

I was wondering about that one, after i looked over at my post.
I can only hope that redshirt doesn't doesn't panic and think that the Yikes button is not incorrectly named. :S

Not having read either entry, I'm puzzled as to why breast implants are mentioned in the original and not in the update. The updater is not supposed to take out stuff from the original, unless it is no longer applicable.

On the other hand, it shouldn't be too difficult to remove the breast implants from the original drawing and submit a new version.
