Please note that the writer is new to h2g2 and that two scouts have advised on the update method**
F15171111?thread=7035752&post=87761573#p87717258
and that a third (Lil) has been following this thread.
I am not scout (as Gnomon knows) but I noticed that this 'indepth rewrite' approach has also been followed by another researcher recently.
A common position on updating would be useful alround I should think.

OK, looking at this in a bit more detail:
1. The existing picture is not very good. As was pointed out long ago, it says "Michigan, USA" at the top, when it is not a map of Michigan, but a map of half of Michigan. It's not attributed to anybody, so this means it was done a long time ago. It also means we shouldn't have to worry too much about offending the original artist. We'll have to get the Eds' approval, but I'm pretty sure there'll be no problem with scrapping the picture and providing a new one.
2. A new picture can be a photograph that a researcher has taken, or a drawing that a researcher has drawn, but it MUST be original, not just someone else's photo.

<> I have known complete rewrites, with nothing of the original remaining, eg the Autumn colours which Big Al did (sorry to confuse things further)

Hi Redshirt42,
Don't let the internal clarifications worry you too much, it's part of h2g2. As you'll see from nbb's post on the previous post, he's 'coded' the text for you.
Hope to see you online soon

Thank you to nbb, I have implemented your draft and added your name to the list of researchers.
As to why my article doesn't mention breast implants, I felt this information was totally unnecessary and irrelevant to Midland itself. If that information belongs anywhere, it's in an article devoted specifically to Dow Chemical.

Whoops, sorry, I didn't mean to post that twice. I failed to notice that the forum now had two pages and thought my post wasn't added for some reason >.<

Sorry to burden you with a long list of trivial changes, redshirt, but it is important to get things right before it is published.
Where did the present picture of chemical flasks come from? Is it a new drawing that someone has submitted? We don't normally re-use pictures from other Entries - if the existing picture is going to be replaced, it is highly recommended that a new one is provided.
Sub-editing work: I haven't time to spot all the changes necessary, but here are a few.
Remove the heading "Overview" at the start.
change all double quotes to single ones: "double" to 'single'.
Change all the and tags to and tags.
"City of Modern Explorers," -- change the double quotes to single ones, and move the comma to outside the quotes.
Herbert H. Dow -- remove the period after the H. Similarly in any other places with initials.
in a city that bares so much of his touch -- change bares to bears. The sentence is still cumbersome, though. Think about rewording it.
the process of electrolyis he moved -- add a comma after electrolysis
German Cartel -- cartel should have a small c
Bankruptcy should have a small b
Was he forcing himself into bankruptcy or them?
to accompany her English bachelor -- this doesn't sound right. You can say that in British English.
McDonalds -- add an apostrophe: McDonald's
Little Ceasar's --> Little Caesar's
on the other end of town --> at the other end of town
accomadation --> accommodation
On the other end of the spectrum --> At the other end of the spectrum
there the typical spread --> there is the typical spread
Very low temperatures are are --> Very low temperatures are rare
2000 volunteers --> 2,000 volunteers
multi-theater cineplex --> multi-screen cineplex
Studio M has two theaters --> Studio M has two screens
until the first-run theaters --> until the first-run cinemas

Midland also is home to a christian Radio Station- one in a series in the Smile-FM network

Those in the Lansing area always think of DOW chemical when they hear about Midland. It is closer to Mt. Pleasant than Lansing However.

I think this gives a distorted picture of the weather
<<In summer, temperatures tend to range from 70°F to 80°F and occasionally into the 90's. In winter, it is often around 30 degrees, occasionally sinking to 20°F. Very low temperatures are are but do occur, though only in deep midwinter.>>
It would be better to say afternoon temperatures in July range between 70 and 80 F, morning lows around 60F . These averages drop quickly during September and October and reaching early morning temperatures in midwinter in single digits climbing to the upper 20s by afternoon.
2009 was an exception as the high January 15th was +10F and the low was -7F.

You might want to note in my Lansing article A600526
I had the temperatures in both F and C
to accommodate those who normally use the other system.

redshirt has not posted since 25 Nov, 2009. What is the consensus on this? Can the update be applied? (I'll check it through with my subbie hat on first obviously)

What I meant was I will attend to Gnomon's comments in post 31, and also take account of Shagbark's next two postings. I can do this as soon as I've applied it to the original article. I'll leave it overnight for further comment from Shagbark, Gnomon or other interested parties, and attend to it in the morning if I get the green light. I'll add redshirt 42, Nbb and Shagbark to the author list, is there anyone else who helped with this who would like to be added?

I'm still unhappy about the pictures. The original entry had a picture on it which has a major mistake - it claims to be a map of Michigan but is in fact only half of Michigan. The replacement suggested in this entry is a picture of some chemical flasks. Is this really appropriate? Where did it come from? Is it borrowed off another entry? I'd like some clarification on this. Alternatively, I can redesign the original picture removing the breast implants which aren't mentioned in either entry, putting in something instead, and changing the title at the top.
The changes I posted were only a few I had spotted. I didn't give it a thorough going through, so be sure to give it the full treatment if you are applying the update, GB.
