Sound like the Times has got a bit confused. As I understand it, the IMAX theatre is open (and has been for months), the main bit (the science mall) is now open, and the tower should get its certificate later this week.
So if anyone sees Wumbie with a parachute on the day, we can probably guess his intentions

It's my round?
Mystery solved, oi tink. There's a mini theatre on the third floor.
Is it true that it's a Greek bar in the GSC, and it only sells ouzo?

Ku'Reshtin (Bring the beat back!) Posted Jul 4, 2001
A bar that only sells ouzo? What if people don't like ouzo, then? What will they have to drink then? Tap water?? Water from the Clyde?

SPINY (aka Ship's Cook) Posted Jul 4, 2001
I can only guess that a bar that sells nothing but ouzo will be a very quiet bar.

Jamie Posted Jul 4, 2001
If the object of a drink is to translate the drinkee from the vertical to horizontal position in the shortest time possible, Clyde water should do admirably

Ku'Reshtin (Bring the beat back!) Posted Jul 4, 2001
Either very quiet, or filled with Greeks, dancing like Zorba.

Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.) Posted Jul 4, 2001
Are you sure it's not a geek bar, full of internet terminals?

Jamie Posted Jul 10, 2001
Coo, suddenly it all goes quiet...
Are we going for the GSC then? (and presumably Byres Rd thereafter)

Sounds okay to me - is it easy to get to from the centre of Glasgow, as I'll probably be getting the train from Edinburgh?
Date?
Jamie Posted Jul 10, 2001
It's basically across the river from the SECC. Either get the low level train from Central to the SECC, or take the underground to Cessnock. I was going to suggest meeting in or near Central Station and proceeding from there as the simplest option.

Flashbacks to Airplane...anyway.
At the risk of sounding sober (heaven forbid!) about this, can I put forward a tentative schedule:
Meet up at Central Station, possibly in that bar-up-the-stairs-wot-name-I-can't-remember-at-the-moment.
Tootle out to SECC and thence GSC via low-level train.
Have Fun(TM). Try and stop Wumbie base-jumping off tower. Or at least make sure he has a parachute on
Take underground up to Byres road. Grab food somewhere. I'd suggest Tennants for this, their grub is pretty good and they are close to Hillhead station. There is also a BK, pizza place, etc.
From there, I'm sure we can work something out...

Hmm, that's a helluva journey from the station through the SEC and across the Bell's Bridge. Sir Ranulph Twistleton-Wumbeevil might need his trusty lager sled and housekeys.
Then again he has a game the night before and may still be furnished with suitable blood alcohol levels.
btw has anyone checked to see if Rangers are at home for a friendly that day?
Stumbles off in the direction of Ibrox.

I think we're safe, the first fixture mentioned on their site is the following Wednesday, and we should have found Cessnock subway by then.
Jamie, we could always go along Paisley Road West and I'll moan about how the pubs have changed, if you like.

Wumbeevil Posted Jul 11, 2001
Oh and the Wednesday game is in Slovenia. Not that this entirely rules out its interfering with our best laid plans or planes.

Ku'Reshtin (Bring the beat back!) Posted Jul 11, 2001
Well laid out plans, Jamie. As you are the local and you seem to know pretty mcuh what you're doing, I'll trust your judgment on this subject.
I'll probably be staying in Glasgow that night anyways, as I have a game the following day, and I have to be at George Square at sometime around 7:30 or so....
