Can I point you all towards the new guidelines for Polling Day that can be found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/HouseRules-Election ?
Thanks.

Oh, come on, you said musicians. That disqualifies The Great Hallowed Warted One AND Britney in my opinion. Although saying that I've met motorhead fans in the past and I wouldn't like to offend any of them. Wouldn't Lemmy and Britney make an interesting couple though?

Okay, just so we're all clear on that: the new rules show that h2g2 is no longer an appropriate place for political discussion. Anyone who wants to discuss politics should not attempt to do so on h2g2, although it may one day resume being a place where people can post "your opinions on world events" as DNA invited us to do a few years back in his welcome message.

*A totally unbiased election posting here*
I don't care who it is that you vote for today. Just make sure that you do. So many of our ancestors fought long and hard to get us the basic right to vote, and it is a damn shame if we do not use it.
*Thus endeth unbiased election posting*

Hear, hear.
If you don't vote, if you don't try to be heard, then you have no right to complain when the government does things that you don't like.
GET OUT THERE AND ETCH AN X!!!

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

GreyDesk Posted Jun 7, 2001
Yes but they don't know that you've decided not to decide when you don't vote. Why not show them by spoiling your ballot paper or making no mark on it at all?

*moan*
I can't vote today because the old owners of my house (which I bought 9 months ago) apparently filled in the electoral register just before they moved out . It was too late to do anything about it when I found out (three weeks ago)
I wouldn't mind so much but I'm in a marginal seat (Birmingham Edgbaston) and it really could make a difference here - all my previous abodes were in majorly safe seats for either one of the parties which isn't so interesting.

As the immortal Frank Zappa said : "Don't forget to register to vote"...
Let's just see how far this election-thingy goes then :
"I want Elvis as PM!"

Er, yeah, you're right, that 'one day' being 10pm tonight, when the restrictions get lifted. Kind of you to point it out.
Good to see you're maintaining your usual sunny and optimistic outlook through this election period, Subcom.

I didn't 'forget' to register - I was never given the opportunity - if I'd known this could happen I would have done something about it

O.k o.k, so it was a figure of speech... After all, Frank was
American. In the Netherlands it would be something like : "VOTE!"
BTW : Do people in England have to register to vote ??? Don't they automatically get an invitation(as in The Netherlands) ?

Once a year, you get a form from the local council on which you're meant to list everyone who's eligible to vote. It's actually illegal not to fill it in. Then they send you a card about a week before the election that tells you where to go to vote - in my case for today, a Portakabin in the Bradford red-light district!

TowelMaster Posted Jun 7, 2001
Hehehehe Vote for the Reds ???
Over here you are registered with the local council once you move in. The rest is all automatic...

After his goal last night, if he was standing for Parliament he'd probably win!
