The home and my space buttons are at the top and bottom if you're in alabaster.

That's a good point - the default skin is supposed to be Brunel, but once you register it changes to Alabaster. I'll see if I can get the entry updated, as this is aimed at new users, who are unfortunately going to be in the wrong skin.

Coincidentally, I didn't realize skins other than alabaster existed for months after I started using H2G2.

That is an interesting point. Perhaps we should get the ACEs to highlight the different skins to newbies?

not that i represent the average user, but given my level of computer illiteracy when i joined, if an ace had outlined the 'skin' choices to me i wouldn't have had the slightest clue what they were talking about.
as it was i saw a question about 'which skin do you use' on ask h2g2 and i read it thinking it had something to do with quite a different kind of skin

I agree that it gets a bit complicated, although if i suspect a digibox user i will mention the plain skin link.
I have checked Feisors page of links that we give to newbies and he does mention it can be viewed in 4 skins. I have left him a message with a link to this thread asking if he wouldnt mind adding a couple of lines to his page to explain about the different skins.

when i post the Plain Link entry number's A948602 i usually mention background instead of [or next to] skin... seems to do the trick..
