A Conversation for Being Vegetarian -- A Beginner's Guide

Being a vegetarian

Post 1

Ross

I changed my eating habits when I moved in with my current partner some 10 years ago; he was a vegetarian from conviction; i.e. he considered that farming animals was cruel.

I didn't find it too difficult as have always liked Indian and Chinese food - very easy to convert to vegetarian ingredients only.

The only thing I have struggled to give up was fish. I adore seafood and whilst I have significantly cut down, I do still eat fish etc.

The biggest breakthrough for us, was the growth in the availability of "vegetarian" produce in the supermarkets here in the UK (Linda McCartney, Quorn, Cauldron Foods). These are incredebly useful soya or TVP (textured vegetable protein - mostly mushroom) based products and include such things as sausages, burgers, various meat substitute fillets, pates etc etc.
