Hmm not sure about Grace, wasn't she just in one of the books, rather than a main character smiley - erm

yes, but she's a pivotal part of what happens to Sharpe. As you know, Cornwell wrote the early part of Sharpe's life after he'd written most of the series.

Grace is just about the love of Sharpe's life - and embitters him against a lot of the establishment after she died and the lawyers were arguing about who should inherit.

Anyway, don't worry. I won't write anything without checking with you first!

Sorry if I sounded a bit mean, didn't mean to. smiley - smiley I don't know much about the books, so I'll trust your knowledge smiley - oksmiley - smiley

I'm about to post on another thread about the Entry F57153?thread=1472079 I hoping the others listed on the Entry are subscribed to that thread. smiley - erm

it didn't sound mean, and it's your entry so it's up to you to decide. What I'll do is write a bit about her, and you can include it or not if you want.

After a quick glance at this thread one thing springs to mind. A Second Lieutenant (Rifles) and an Ensign (Other line regts.) are the same thing.

Nice to see you back Waylander smiley - smiley

My understanding is Ensign is correct for the time period, Second Lieutenant later replaced the rank of Ensign. smiley - oksmiley - smiley

There's a web page somewhere that has the rank changes on it, when I find it again, I'll add it to my Bookmarks. smiley - erm

oh my, I don't have the book handy, but there is mention (in Siege I think) about how he cavalry regiments (true to form) had a different rank set-up for very junior regiments.

I'd say the cavalry regiments are still peculiar, but my dad would be cross so I won't smiley - evilgrin

Sho, can you remember if it's in the Siege's (assuming it's Siege) 'Forward' or 'Historical Notes' or the main content of the book? smiley - erm

it's mentioned in the text, but I'll check - it could be Guards regiments they were talking about, because it was in connection with Pumphrey

You can read a book in an evening, smiley - wow it takes me about a week smiley - laugh though I only read for 2-3 hours in bed of a night and I'm a slow reader

If it's easier for you, you can just post the page number(s) and I'll look it up in my copy of 'Prey'

Over the last few weeks I've read Eagle, Gold, Battle, Sword, Enemy, and am currently reading Honour, I've not got Company, I think there's quite a lot on Teresa and Sharpe in Company, so I have ordered the talking cassette as well as the book from my local library, so I can find out what happens within an hour by listening, instead of days by reading. Then I'll be able to add Teresa section with the notes I've already got. smiley - magic

you are truly dedicated.

I read really fast, and since I've read it twice already, I will skim a lot of it. But I have to say, that I really like this one. Sharpe is really moody most of the time and I love Captain Chase.

Some cavalry regts. had a dual rank, ie captain-major, as they were considered to be superior to normal line regts.

Hmm think I'll find out if it's ok with the EG rules to add historical notes the way I have, before I add anymore. smiley - erm
