I'm up for helping out on this, being a big Sharpe fan I'd love to become part of this effort! what do I need to do?
If it helps I own ALL the Sharpe books and the entire series on DVD so if you need a referance just ask!
I'm fairly new to the collabarative writing thingy so needs some pointers about what to do where to go and how to do it.

In fact I've just spotted my first point!
This sentance near the beginning...
By actions such as saving Sir Arthur Wellesley's life at Assaye (for which he was given a field commission of Lieutenant),
In the books he was given a field commission to the lowest possible officer rank Ensign, its only in the TV series he becomes a Lieutenant.

Cheers Cardi-Bling
I'll change it to Ensign later.
If you could write a bit about Sir Henry Simmerson from the books point of view, (assuming he was in the books) I'll add that and your name on the Entry later.

Cool I'll start researching and writing about Simmerson...
You need to add Jane Gibbons to the list of Sharpes women as she plays an important part in the stories and when Sharpe first meets her shes Simmersons niece...

Ok, Can you write a bit on Jane too?
I'll add your name to both Entries after I post this
The main difficulty we have is not repeating the same info in both Entries. How I'm trying to aviod that is by writing the TV series through the main characters, as we meet them throughout the series.

When Bernard Cornwell started writing was writing his first Sharpe novel Sharpe’s Eagle he soon realised that to maintain the excitement Sharpe’s real enemy would not be the French as they’d normally be anonymous cannon fodder. He needed a villain close to home and created Sir Henry Simmerson to provide that role.
Sharpe has always battled against the prejudice amongst his fellow officer caused by his poor upbringing and Simmerson was a perfect example of this. Born a wealthy aristocrat Simmerson raised the South Essex with his own cash. Planning to become a hero in Spain he is soon embarrassed by Sharpe’s experience and learns to hate Sharpe even more after shamefully running from battle and consequently loosing his regimental colours to the French. By the end of Sharpe’s Eagle he returns to England disgraced only to turn up later in Sharpe’s Regiment.
He becomes involved in the scam to sell recruits to other regiments for cash. A practice known as crimpingThis is plan is eventually exposed by Sharpe with help from Simmerson’s own niece Jane Gibbons who’d later became Sharpe’s second wife. However the wealthy have always made their own luck and Simmerson manages to escape embarrassed but unharmed. According to Bernard Cornwell Simmerson eventually became a tax inspector which is perhaps lucky as he could just as easily have become one of Sharpe’s kills.
Jane Gibbons was Richard Sharpes second wife, he first saw her in the portrait taken from the dead body of her brother Christopher Gibbons, his superior officer in Sharpe’s Eagle. After carrying the locket for a number of years and even showing Teresa it whilst married to her he finally meets Jane for realSharpe Regiment is set in 1813 but it mentions that he’d already met Jane at a parish church where he brother was buried 4 years early on Sharpe last visit to England what happened during that meeting is still unknown whilst she is living as a virtual slave on her Uncle Henry Simmerons estate in Sharpe’s Regiment Very beautiful she soon falls for Sharpe and helps him throughout that story.
Jane and Sharpe soon marry and she follows him to back to Spain where she catches a fever that worries Sharpe all the way throughout Sharpe’s Siege. When Sharpe breaks his word to her about never fighting again she returns to England with all of his money and is seduced by the dandy cavalry officer Lord John Rossendale. At the time of Waterloo Jane is at the ball in Brussels when he storms into the ball room in Brussels and threatens Rossendale, Sharpe no longer cares for Jane and wants his money back. Jane knowing Sharpe that is a killer encourages Rossendale to get tohim first , in a climatic scene in the woods near Waterloo Sharpe sells Jane to Rossendale for what’s left of his money. The irony being that the note promising to pay the money back that Rossendale gives to Sharpe is worthless as most of the money has already been spent. Rossendale is then killed on the battlefield at Waterloo and Jane is left alone and penniless.
they probably need some polishing but the basics are there.
I'm also working on some paragraphs for Sharpe's Regiment and Sharpe's Waterloo as well I'll post them up also once I've finished them!

I've put those in just as they are for now, though they will need changing a bit to fit in with the rest of the Entry

I'll do Grace (that's her name - amazing how the mind can go totally blank in a split second) tonight if you like.
I'm reading Sharpe's Gold at the moment - I'd forgotten how much I like that one.

Emmily ~ Roses are red, Peas are green, My face is a laugh, But yours is a scream Posted Oct 6, 2005
erm Sho, did Grace have a bit part in the books. Someone mentioned Sharpe had had 11 (I think) 'relationships' I was going to add a sentence to that effect, would Grace be included in those do you know?
We really need to shorten this a bit, I think you mentioned that too, any suggestions?

Grace is in Trafalgar but that's it - although she has a huge part in that, of course, since Sharpe's relationship with her is pivotal to what happens.
And sorry, I've had no time to do anything, and am now away for 2 weeks with no internet access, so no chance
sorry!

You need to add the new one to the list of published books...Sharpes Escape set in 1810, it comes between Gold and Battle, I'm about half way through it at the moment...good so far!

Ok Cheers
I'm getting rather confused with some of this, I may submit it to one of the Writing Workshops next week, see I can get some more experienced views and how to write it.
I've got Sharpe's Escape, if I ever get aound to reading it...

Cardi Posted Nov 8, 2005
yeah it's probably worth submitting this to he writing workshop or to peer review even then more people can contribute to it as it'll be more easily found, at the moment unless you are specifically searching for sharpe its quite hard to find this entry on h2g2...

Sho - employed again! Posted Jan 8, 2006
right I'm back.
If you still want me?
If you don't I totally understand - I have been very absent and neglectful.
But in any case, I'm going to read the Sharpe (novel) entry again, because I like it so much.

No worries, you're not the only one who's been neglecting the Entry I keep getting side-tracked, I've got an Entry in PR, once that's finished and picked I will concentrate on getting the Sharpe Entry finished.
