I was forced to do military service (in Belgium it was obligatory until a few years ago)! Luckily it's been abolished now.
Thanks to my big mouth (and my questioning of obviously ridiculous orders), I spent about 75% of it "cleaning" because of being punished (they called this "light arrest"), and even got arrested for real once. But what the hell: getting arrested in the army was like being a hero when you got out (and all the other draft-victims looked up to you).

Having Dual Swiss-British nationality I avoided living there for more than a couple of months until I was over 28 - now I'm settled in the Yuke so don't think I'll ever go live there .
Just thought of something that you guys *may* appreciate - The Beeb regularly "censor" broadcast transmissions - but the most obvious of these generally uses "self" censorship - using the word "Allegedly" - I'm talking about Have I got News for You and the Censor - sorry Host - Angus.

Maybe there is something to be said for Moderation?
I just started a thread with "Essex Grunger Boy" over at his "protest about the word B*****y" with the title "Anal Sex" only to discover that he is only 15!!! I tend to assume that everybody on H2G2 is an adult until told otherwise, and that they know what they are talking about... Maybe there should be a way of indicating which individuals are "under age" so that we can be aware who we are talking to!
