This is a good, useful entry.

Here is a good website link for the entry:

[URL Removed by moderator]

It's the link to the kibbutz volunteer office described in the entry. It has lots of information on kibbutz volunteering, and some of it contradicts the information in this entry (most notably the part about work hours, etc.).

Mikey.
Thanks for the link firstly, really useful, and I'll be putting it in the piece.
Work hours vary, and the general rule of thumb with the kibbutz is that they will over estimate the hours Volunteers work, presumably on the premise that if people aren't willing to work 7/8 hours, then they're not Volunteer material.
Many kibbutz have suffered - are suffering from - what is called the 'Marbella Mentality' (particularly, I'm sorry to say, from English Volunteers!)where the general attitude seems to be 'I'm on holiday, working or not, so I'm gonna get p****d up and sod the consequences'
I think I might add a small paragraph on this and the Israeli attitude to alcohol as well!
Thanks again for the link, excellent!

this is definitely getting better and better!

mikey likes it!*

* for the many at h2g2 who were not children in America during the 70s, this is a reference to a really corny cereal commercial. smiley - smiley

Glad to announce that this one has officially been accepted for the edited guide, and will soon be sub-edited and then will have the honor of passing through the hands of TPTB. smiley - smiley

Here's the official spiel:

"Thanks for your recommendation. You'll be glad to know that we think this
entry is great, and it has now gone into the Editorial Process for future
inclusion in the Edited Guide. When it does get into the Edited Guide, we
will email to let you know, but please bear in mind it can take a while for
entries to go through the sub-editing system. Thanks for writing for the guide!"

hmm, there seems to be something wrong in the inner workings of h2g2...

* the entry has been recommended by the posting above,
* it shows up on the /ComingUp page,
* on the researcher's space it says neither 'recommended' nor 'pending' behind the entry's name,
* there doesn't seem to be a SubEd's version around here,
* this thread is still on the PeerReview page.

Congratulations!
