Indeed daytime television consists of trashy talk shows, trashy soaps, trashy quiz shows and trashy cookery programmes but the real biscuit taker, the "piece de resistance" has to be the adverts.
The "raison d'etre" of the shows is surely:
A. To expedite a speedy recovery of the sick and injured.
B. To drive the unemployed back to work.
C. To bore the elderly to death thus easing the burden on the state pension.
...whereas the daytime adverts fall into three distinct categories all of which encourage the idle life:
A. for those suffering from Plumbum Pendulitis. "Have you had an accident in the last THREE YEARS? Tell us who to blame and we'll sue the pants off them"
B. for the terminally unemployed. "Can't get a loan? Got CCJ's? Not to worry. Provided that you don't understand what an exorbitant APR is and you also have shootable relatives and a house that we can take off your hands, we will give you some cash and a free millstone to hang around your neck"
C. for the elderly "Use that equity! You can't take it with you! Sign your house over to us and we'll give you an income for life and £50 each for the grandkids. Applicants over 90 need only apply"
Roll on nine PM.
