With these we'd make something we call mix - we can't find a better name for it!

Soften the onions, add mince and brown seasoning with pepper, salt worcestershire (sp) sauce. Add sliced sausages, tinned toms. Garlic and giner to taste. Tomato puree helps to season and thicken if you have it. Chop and add pepper and chillies. Add peas or sweetcorn if wanted (could add either of these to the rice cooking later on, for colour). Let is simmer and thicken, seasoning to taste.

Cook the rice with perhaps the sweetcorn or peas (as mentioned earlier). We sometimes season the rice with veg or chicken stock in the water.

Serve, option of grated or parmesan cheese on top.

This is probably the commoners version of a far more sophisticated dish, we just add whatever we have and wing it smiley - smiley

Well, that, or maybe you could make some variation of a sweet and spicy paiaiea. I'm not quite sure how to spell that, but it's part of either cajun or creole cooking smiley - doh. Oh crud, wish I could remember more specifically about it. All I remember is that it tasted pretty good and meat, sausage bits, tomato, red pepper, rice, maybe pasta (oh wait, nevermind ther pasta, wrong dish), some vegetables, etc. smiley - huh. Well, not quite sure... is the ginger pickled? not sure if it would be good to recommend adding that into the mix smiley - skull. Could attempt to make some new kind of an alternative sushi utilizing it and some of the other ingredients though, like the Hawaiians did when they invented spam sushi. smiley - zen

Do you have like a recipe maybe? My mom likes to cook. Is really good at it too. Maybe should have someone set up a recipe thread sometime. That would be neat.smiley - wizard Ah geez, dinner time already. Going to get busted if I don't stop now to help set table. Bye.

No I don'[t really have a recipie, it all depends mainly on what I've got in smiley - laugh last night I had some mushrooms I wated to use up, and a frozen chicken breast I defrosted. In the saucepan, I grated in a goodly deal of block coconut milk, and put on the heat, once hot I threw in some Garum Mucarla (not sure if thats spelt right), and grated a bit of ginger to go intoo smiley - droolthen in went a finely sliced/diced half an large onion, and a big handfull of cleaned and chopped mushrooms a couple cloves garlic finely minced, a stick of lemon grass again done with the grater <and three smallish chilllies chopped fairly finely smiley - bigeyes after a time, I put in the diced chicken, after having moved the majority of the veg over to one side of the pan, and sealed the diced chicken breast, before mixing it more generally in and letting cook a while, then I made a very* small amount of chicken stock using a half a stock cube, and threw that in and let it all simmer away, probably for about fifteen mins or so, allwoing it to all reduce down smiley - drool and I boiled up the plain wild Basmati rice wahilst that was doing smiley - drool served it up together, and put a bit of soya sauce and some lemon juice onto the rice just to give it a bit of different flavour smiley - drool I think the curry thing comes out a bit better if you use a plain youguart as well, but I didn't have any smiley - dohsmiley - drool if I'd had it, I'd have probably put half a diced sweet pointed or red/green pepper in to the curry too, anything really like that would do smiley - biggrin

Also on subject of food has been a scorcher these past few weeks in the states. what juices are you folks partial to for making popsicles with? Also for the adults; Am curious as to whether a hard drink popsicle would work same as a soft-drink popsicle. Alcohol has a much higher freezing point than water. I think.
If anyone knows the answer to this one, please tell me. Also am pondering smiley - tea or smiley - coffee popsiclessmiley - cappuccino.

Alcohol has a lower freezing temp that water that's why it is used in anti-freeze, also a lower boiling temp so you can cook it out of sauces.

Oh, thanks. Then I guess you could make popsicles using liquors, don't know if they would taste alright though, might have to experiment a bit. Pretty sure smiley - coffee or smiley - tea ones would work, though and probably taste okay if you remembered to put the sugar in them first (before freezing)?

smiley - footinmouth:
For this experiment you will need a large tank/vat of liquid nitrogen and/or dry ice?
Did you know it takes about thirty seconds to make liquid nitrogen icecreamsmiley - brr

smiley - dohOh, no wait don't try that, in order to freeze alcohol it would need to be cooled so low that it would most likely be harder than a trock or your tongue might stick to it/break your teethsmiley - yikes

OK; I have to ask; what is nitrogen icecream, how do you make it and do you eat it or bring it to science class???????????

Recipes; yikes! I was on a 500caldiet and lost 15lbs; 5lbs in one week;dropped a dress size; but it was sooooo hard and now I am playing yo-yo; I guess that is a really familiar complaint......do men really like women super thin and playboy modelish? Why? Why do all women work so hard to look like Pamela Anderson and no man I know tries that hard to look like Brad Pitt(circa TROY).........????????

Alas, I would suggest you cut the red pepper up into lots of pieces to make it seem like more food than it is and that would be lunch........
