Why do fools fall in love, stupidity, lust or bravery.

"i know when a dog feels agressive or submissive by it's body movements...Look into the average cows eyes and you'll see that they experience a whole world of misery after they get past the leaping about for the hell of it stage...like domestic pets are driven by survival needs to be fed and feel secure."
Sounds like most of the people I've ever met.

Go to Matters!

Gaffa choses to be cynical, I think he enjoys it, he must do to stick with it so faithfully smiley - biggrin
Sometimes we 'enjoy' our hurts and discomforts because they feel safely familiar.
Letting go of them can feel like bailing out of a plane without a chute !

I'm not hurt or discomfited by my beliefs in the slightest. The idea that life is meaningless or that humans serve no higher function doesn't have to be a depressing one - we all find our own reasons to live, regardless of whether or not they have a deeper universal purpose. I don't see why believing that existence is pointless is any more "safely familiar" than clinging to the vague, unfounded notion that we have some important place in the universe which is not occupied by other living creatures.

gaffer,
i strongly believe that it is much less depressing to believe that each of us is "here" for a higher purpose and that we are not just random accidents of nature.
the way you and i think about things;
big bang
billions of years pass...matter condenses into galaxies, solar systems, countless planets...
on a certain spiral galaxy, near the edge, a star, surrounded by 9 planets has a 3rd planet that happens to be at a distance from the star such that liquid water formed and over millions of years, life evolved to the point that we are at now...
just chance.
no purpose.
he just happen to be here because he could be here.
and, we die after only a short time here, ceasing to exist forever.
to me, that's depressing.

What if we are here purely for the amusement of the entity that created us? And that being has a bet on to see how much we will 'grin and bear' it before we crack? Is that not as depressing as having no perception of soul or afterlife?
At the end of the day each of us decides if what we believe keeps us 'sane' or otherwise, happy or sad. If it produces negative feelings, most humans will adjust their belief to a point where life is at he very least tolerable. The lucky ones will actually enjoy the life experience.
We can only experience our own mental state. Each human receives different feedback.
The only apparently rational explanation is that there was something (life/physical mass/energy) that triggered the original creation/big bang. That is what I understand to be God. No more: no less.
It is so outside our experience that each of us might be correct in our assumptions because each of us may hold a portion of that entity.
All the accoutrements of belief structures are made by humanity to try and come to terms with that. Some are happy to just be alive.

Love is wierd, but it depends on the person, but personally love happens to everyone, it is very contagious and I believe everyone falls in love and that love means your human and trust me you'll feel it more 100 times in your life.

i once saw a book which had the title, "love is just sex misspelled." kinda makes you think. if i had to give a real answer it'd be pheremones.

Love can be another word for sex
It can also be something very different

Sometimes love remains without sex.
Love comes in many shapes and forms, it isn't only between two people with procreation in mind.
Love can create sacrifices and true altruism.

LOVE BETWEEN 2 MATES is basically
LUST [physical attraction] = You consider the other a suitable gene donor for your kids
+
"feeling as if" YOUR MINDS HAVE BECOME ONE
when 2 people of similar minds spend sufficient time together, their thoughts and ideas will merge towards a single common set of beliefs as each bends the others towards their own...
when 2 people's wavelengths of thought become close enough, then they feel as if they are in love.
familiarity also plays a role. a large part of our social support is based on familiarity.

for awhile i used to really think that i knew. i was in love once but it worked out very badly in the end. kinda makes you question the whole project. which is why i go back to saying it's pheremones, just easier to deal with if the entire messy project is just a biological conspiracy. but i could be wrong.

lust is easy to define. it is biologically hard-wired by eons of evolution.

LOVE is much more difficult to understand b/c it is the result of some complex interplay between our lust and our big neocortices.

Yes you are right
We all know what to do to dissipate our lust.
We don't know what to do about the complexities of love, which is not dissipated by sex.
It's a mystery of life that we can't do without.
Those who do not/have not experienced love led fairly miserable lives.

Why do fools fall in love?
Why do *fools* fall in *love*?
You're actually asking this?
Why are dead bodies attracted to ponds? I think the chronology needs some work: were they fools before they fell in love?

We need an experiment.
Fools (to see if they fall in love).
Non-fools (to see if they fall in love).
People in love (to see if they are fools).

We test the people in love and find out how many are fools. The rest is self-explanatory.

1. No
2a A possibilty. Sometimes people do not want to take the risk of feeling love...It might let them down...so they build psycological walls. Barriers to the thing that would make them happy.
b. I'm British ! (Actually family descended from Picts with a family motto thus ; "I'll Try."

Garies,

smiley - laugh

quite amusing post there.

smiley - love --> loss of rational thinking --> become a "fool"

that's how i see it.

the world is inundated with fools, both in love and out of love.
