what is the meaning of life?
Researcher 185550 Posted Nov 5, 2003
France'll be largely ok, they get most of their energy from nuclear power.

Mal Posted Nov 5, 2003
Actually, I read somewhere that we get a whole load of ours from nuclear sources. Over funfzig percentzig.

I was actualyl referring to food, this time. The pollution wipes out the food sources... sorta...

*Ponders*
*Warns*
Anything of note that is said on this thread is open to plagiarism by me for my upcoming thesis about Wot It All Is, "Neurological Model Agnosticism and Progenetic Motivational Psychology". Heh. In a subtle way, obviously.
What do you all think of the following:
Reality, in the English language, is an odd word that is both a noun and singular. We picture Reality as a solid, real thing, like a country or a building. This is useful to us since this is how our minds work; we tend to categorise things for our own comfort and ease. However, modern physics and some age-old mysticisms show us that reality is just a construct of our nervous systems, and that actual “reality” is just bundles of energy. The view that it is singular like a planet or sealed bottle has also been disproved by modern physics, which show it to be constantly evolving and changing.
Despite all this evidence, we still tend to think that behind the big, wandering dance of energy, there is actually a solid reality that we cannot quite perceive. This semantic fog, as Gurdjieff would have it, will not do.

plagiarism...um....sure...watever...
Is that like your introduction? about Neurological Model Agnosticism...
Its good. Leaves you wondering.
what is the meaning of life?
Noggin the Nog Posted Nov 5, 2003
This is, of course, only true on the assumption that the reality constructed by our nervous systems is the way reality really is. If it's not... but that way madness lies.

Ah, I forgot about the little Word bug in this site that replaces some symbols with things like "Űwy4". Sorry.
It is a bit like my introduction, yup, with some Platonic philosophy duct-taped onto the end. I'm glad that SOMEONE read my PS, at least. I've updated it five times in as many days and no one's showed any signs of even looking at it!

Noggin - Madness, yes, but strictly rational madness . Although I'm sure I had this conversation on the God? thread...
(Note increased use of smileys - getting fed up of people telling me that I appear grumpy... damned kids)

Mal Posted Nov 5, 2003
Do you? How old are you? I'm only sixteen, meself. It was mainly azahar who told me so, actually, and since we've just had an argument I guess I can appear as grumpy as I like.
Bah. Humbug.

AK - fancy that! Posted Nov 5, 2003
Me? Ha, you'd be surprised, I'm only 13.

Mal Posted Nov 5, 2003
Oh, well done! You ought to join the Under-18's HooToo league or something like that. *Roots around for address* Sorry, can't find it, but you can search for it.
Congratulations on having an extremely mature mind for someone so comparitively young to all the old fogeys tottering around here
A hint to the wise - don't believe anything anyone says on here (*especially* me).
what is the meaning of life?
AK - fancy that! Posted Nov 5, 2003
Sure I won't
,thanks.
Old fogeys...?
I've already joined the young researcher's club, is that what you meant?
If you're in it, one more year and you're out, its only up to 16 years old
But if its a hint to the wise, from you, and I'm not supposed to believe you, then should I or shouldn't I?
This statement is false.

Old fogeys?
I think the young whippersnapper might mean me.

"This statement is false"
No it's not, AK, you're right. And so is this one isn't.
Noggin
Of course I don't mean you! Your mental picture in my mind is a wise fatherly figure, not too old, with a cheerful and contemplative smile, and joke arrow-through-the-head.
You want to talk old? Justin, now HE appeared old...

Noggin the Nog Posted Nov 5, 2003
Justin? Just a youngster. I like to think he'll grow out of it.

Mal Posted Nov 5, 2003
Seems to me that he'll grow into it. It is his destiny. As they get older and older, human minds grow more and more solidly into theistic reliant roles. Biologically proven. Can't be denied.

Noggin the Nog Posted Nov 5, 2003
Do I strike you as "theistically reliant"?
More set in whatever belief system we have? Granted. After all, it's worked so far...

Mal Posted Nov 5, 2003
Well, aren't you, like me, reliant upon the theists for your daily dose of humour?
Okay, okay, you're the least theist person I know. But why are so many young people solipsists (even if they have as fancy a name for it as I have) and so many old people rationalists?

Researcher 185550 Posted Nov 5, 2003
It's 18 actually, cos I'm 17 and I'm in it.
