what is the meaning of life?
Researcher 221798 Posted May 13, 2003
hi, i'm kinda new. i joined this h2g2 site back in early March but never really did much. this is prolly my first reply to something.
Meaning Of Life:
I've read a lot of stuff about 42 and i've also read the first book of h2g2.
But my theory: Our souls are here on Earth to experience the ups and downs of Life and at the infinite end of infinite eternity, when the infinite numbers of souls have gained enough experience and ALL knowledge, they become gods of faraway, different universes.
that's all. sorry if it's quite ludicrous!

my previous post in a nutshell:
Life is a field trip.-I can't remember who once said this, but it was some mumbo jumbo theological gungho guy.

Give life more understanding and meaning in the world of h2g2 by entering something in your personal space. People can then make direct contact with you and I am that by doing this your experience will be widened.

Ancient Brit,
point taken, just haven't had time to really do that as yet, just found this sight a couple days ago. i decided to check it out because i'm reading "The Salmon of Doubt" right now and DNA mentions this little forum.
-and like little orphan annie said "I think I'm gonna like it here!"
-by the way, does my lack of proper grammar, and puncuation really bother people? just curious is all...

hi Jibbly,
Hey, that's how I found out about h2g2 - by reading the Salmon of Doubt.
Small universe, isn't it?

Jibbly,
Oops, forgot me smiley, that should have read:
'Small universe, isn't it? '
btw, if people start pestering you about your grammar, spelling, etc that's only cos they have nothing more clever to say. You do seem to have an aversion to caps, which obviously confuses poor Fnord, but don't mind him. He confuses everybody even *with* caps

so what'd you think of the book? it's not what i was expecting, but i still dig it.

Right, getting back to the meaning of life...
what is the meaning of life?
azahar Posted May 13, 2003
Okay, N1NJ4 - if you insist!
We exist - that is the meaning. When we stop existing (here) then I suppose we will mean something else that has another name other than life. It certainly won't be human life anyhow. Though I could be wrong about that - why not? The thing is that, while we are here in these bodies of ours for our short lifetimed, that we LIVE seems to be the most important requirement for 'meaning'.
Isn't it a wondrous miracle enough as it is that we are all here? Shouldn't that be enough meaning for anybody - that we have this chance and this life and this body and this world to live in and to be able to explore and experience so many things within all that? I mostly think so.

Hi researcher Number whatever it was, now I have forgotten, but never, ever be sorry for an opinion!! I have spent x number of years thinking that my opinion didn,t count, and apologising!!!! then, suddenly I woke up and realised that yes, it did count, that I actually mattered, my ideas meant something and if others thought that whatever I had to say was "ludicrous" or likewise, then sorry, that is their problem!! That could also be a part of the meaning of life, to know that you and what you have to say and contribute to and in life, is just as important as that of others!!
Life is a learning experience, we can all learn from one another.

Mabye we are what we are here for. (imagine an emoticon pulling on its collar because of a really weird sentence)
When you look at the basics we are here to pass on our genes and ensure the survival of our species. But what is prolonging the life of our species really good for? Our species won't live forever, so why try. The only thing that we really want to do is to make our selvs happy, and if prolonging our species does that, so be it. We really won't do anything unless it makes us happy in the long run.

I think I am the last one to work out that f = 6 and g = 7 but then I have not been in this quadrant very long. I am still trying to fathon out the higher numbers. F^2 = 36 and 6^2 = 49, is that it or does it mean 12 and 14? And do you add them together or what?
Or is it a linguistics problem? Are they functions of one another?
I am beginning to believe it is true what they say about this arm of the galaxy: Mostly harmless and deeply concerned with uncertainties.
I think it is no coincidence that their word for correct usage of words is a pun on the tongue of their mother's tongue. They are so positive about their negatives that given a means of communication in which it impossible for any contender in it to really know who or what they are talking to (and often about) their first concern is what said "others" are thinking or feeling about them.
Humans are really wierd.

F^2 = 36 and 6^2 = 49,
Isn't this just typical with the computers on this planet? You can't go near a serious discussion of these things without some sort of repercussion.
F^2 = 36 and G^2 = 49,

If I told you I might have to kill you. That would be an awful waste of meat if I wasn't willing to eat you.

under what conditions would you not have to kill me?
mabye knowing where you are from is the meaning of my life, it wouldn't really matter then, would it?
