Evidence?
Because the C4 racing news never mentioned it, and mum was an avid race fan when she lived with me, and we would have remembered.
I know it was a theory...
But there were people looking out for Shergar colts and fillies and wondering whether the bloodlines were actually lost (this is prior to routine dna testing being available)...

91-94% But if the compiler of these tests dis not have 20-20 vision
or a 100% record any further reading would of course be flawed.
Colour blindness some of you with what is described as colour blindnes will have a advantage in interputing what i describe as shades of grey (red-green-blue)(orange-greem-purple)(pink-lime-mauve)

Actually, I'd be quite happy never to see the colour mauve again! In fact, I think it should be made illegal.

The C 4 in the previous post refers to the UK television channel, not to whatever the h2g2 site has linked it to...

My brother-in-law's brother is completely colour-blind, and is a painter - an RA, in fact... Do you remember the pictures behind the settee? The fishing boat was one of his early works.
I wonder when the article was written...

I got 97% on the first, and 96% on the other two. Sometimes I had a hard choice, other times, it was so easy...

Wow, I thought I'd get 100% on all three, but for some reason, I didn't... Not far off, though. People say women are more aware of niceties of shade than men are, but I am sure that's cultural - men say green, women say chartreuse, jade, forest etc. One of my sisters has a really hard time with blue and green where they shade into one another, we had a dispute about the ownership of some babt clothes over it once. Sigh... One of my sons got upset once because I had washed a T shirt, and it was the exact shade he wanted to wear with some shorts. I couldn't see the difference between it and the other T shirt he offered, so that proves it's cultural...He's a guy, I am a woman.

Last year's Reith Lecture series, which is broadcast on BBC Radio 4 about this time every year, was by a psychologist based in the USA. He was briefly known as Ram because his Indian name (Ramakrishnan?) was a bit of a mouthful. He started by discussing synaesthesia and went on to apply it to other psychological phenomena. Many people here listened and enjoyed it I think. I bet someone knows whether the text is still available online and, if so, where. Anyone got it?

Sounds fascinating - synaesthesia (sp?) is an interesting phenomenon!

Della. I only mentioned it now because you appear to have it as you see letters in colour, or do I have it slightly wrong? Ram argues that other areas of the brain may be, or become, similarly cross wired and explains many behaviours as a consequence of this. I'll have a hunt for a reference to the text online since none of the gang has responded.

I cannot visualise, so I cannot actually *see* them, but it's the idea that the alphabet is coloured - a=red,b=royal blue.. down to x=dark blue, y=turquoise,z=gold. I discovered that my brother and my friend had *their* alphabet colours, which differed sometimes quite strongly, but whether they saw them or just 'knew' them, I am not sure. But that's why some words are certain colours.
Cities, (any names, really, so that Africa, Annjanette and Adric are all red, Zambia is gold);and some others, abstract concepts (Power is rich vegetable green, Faith is pink, Patience is green) also have colours relating to their initial letter. These *are* the colours, I don't determine them. Sadly, Della is mud brown, and my RL surname is dark blue, so we've got misery colours there.
I found Alji's colour blindness links fascinating!
White/pink/red/peach/royal blue/silver green/pink! (Punctuation isn't coloured...
My mother used to say "Listen to that smell" when she encountered a strong one, and as I was typing that, a little old lady with *very* strong (and quite nice) perfume just came and used the copier a metre to my right.

Della. I still think you have a form of synaesthesia. Here's a link to the lectures. There's the full audio and a text transcript plus diagrams. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/reith2003/
I think and hope you will find at least some of it enjoyable.
