I assume you're talking about me, Shifty: I'm fifteen and female, just to set the record straight.
Dr J, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this subject - at least, until I learn a little more. While I still stick firmly to my beliefs, I concede that I'm not as aware of the situation as I should be, and not really informed enough to argue it further.

I partially Agree, Christianity is a total flunk of a religion. All it's truths are based on writings people wrote 500 years after Jesus died... so It's not like any of them are even eye witness accounts. And the New Testiments have been altered I believe.
Continuing on Christianity, Christianity is from Jusaism, as most know, but quite a few of it's traditions (such as Sunday being the Holy day) were simply created to seperate themselves from Jews because Jews were being persecuted. Jesus wasn't even born on December 25th, it was only moved there because the Romans had a big festival and Christians wanted in on it too.

And probably cute, too
I agree Echo, that we have different points of view here. We have seen different things, myself more than I ever wanted to. At 15 you've just begun to see how cruel man can be to man, and it's pre-filtered through the media or textbooks. A phone call may be the next best thing to being there, but nothing can take the place of actually being there. I don't think anyone really has a handle on rehabilitation. Once past the age of 12 there's little that can be done to alter someone's personality-this is why my mother taught 4th grade. She learned that at this age there's still a chance to make a change in the general direction a life takes.

Someone's fundamental personality, yes, but there have been cases of, for example, teenagers who have been arrested for various things - drinking, shoplifting, for example - and still go on to lead perfectly normal lives as adults. Something that actually works well in this country is the juvenile detention system, which actually works to rehabilitate, not punish - hence the reason why most of the kids that come up for shoplifting don't grow up to be bank robbers.

Oh, toxxin, my sympathies! I hope it isn't for too long, and that you can bear up... I think I know what it's about, and whether I am right or not, as I say, I hope it's not a too horrible experience for you.

<< All it's truths are based on writings people wrote 500 years after Jesus died...>>
No, I am sorry, that's just incorrect, it was not 500 years, in fact though there's no general agreement, some say it was less than 100, around about 70 that the first books of the New Testament were being distributed.
<< And the New Testiments have been altered I believe.>>
Some say that, but once again, there's no evidence that that is correct.
<< Jesus wasn't even born on December 25th, it was only moved there because the Romans had a big festival and Christians wanted in on it too.>>
This is true, and fairly well known, but not terribly important, IMO.

Thanks, Apple. There's half a chance it might just be probation and not custody. At least you understand that I'm not a bad person.
Goodbye for a while to you all if I'm not back later.
Keep on posting.

Sorry Apple but there is evidence of alterations, additions and mistranslation. As I have pointed out before, the story of Simon the leper has to be a mistranslation because lepers were not allowed to live in towns.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on retaining your freedom. I was stuck in "the Riverhead Hilton" for a week for not paying fines I didn't know I had, and later found that someone I worked with had used an expired license of mine as his ID. Boy did he suffer for that! I was there a week because the lawyer I hired goofed off-he's paid for that error as well. When the judge listened to the arresting officer confirm that he had also spoken with this lawyer the day of the arrest and that this lawyer told him that he'd be in court the next day to represent me the judge nearly had him disbarred, but fined him instead.

>>in the uk they had national service where everyone left school had to do 2 years national service they stopped it but it is still going in some countrys , now people learned alot in them 2 years mabe it would be a good thing to bring this back .it would take the bored teenagers of the streets and lear them something worthwhile .<<
There are already 11 years of compulsory schooling in the UK and it doesn't seem that some people will ever learn something worthwhile.
Out of interest, what do /you/ define as worthwhile? And did you go through national service?

I think toxx should enlighten us all about the nature of the offence. Just so that we can all be sure to direct our sympathies in the right direction?

hi jez, too give young people a better start out look in live ,there are youths 16 leaving school are running about the street doing nothing not even wanting to look for work , now 2 years service could learn them a trade, learn them to drive ,etc learn them to be young men and women with respect .
well there is a school unit near me that has kids that can't cope with mainstream school ,now i don't mean handicaped kids with specail needs , iam talking about kids who don't want to learn , eg a group of kids where in the unit they could not spell there names etc , but the same kids could write there names etc on walls of houses shops etc THEY DON'T WANT TO LEARN IT DIFFERS FROM KIDS WHO CAN'T LEARN , THATS WHAT IAM ON ABOUT .
Criminal offence...

OK then Jez. I downloaded some photographs by David Hamilton. Although they're freely published, the police decided that they were Levels 1 and 2 child porn. I was advised to plead guilty.
This was such a minimal version of the offence that instead of the usual custodial sentence, I got probation - from the Crown Court. I would argue that this is a daft law when you can lawfully purchase printed pictures, but it is an offence to download them. I'll cite the relevant law and precedent if you're not aware of it.

No, but most bank robbers were shoplifters; like most heroin addicts started with pot and most pot smokers do not become addicted to heroin. There's also a huge gap between shoplifters, bank robbers and such at one end of the spectrum and murderers and rapists at the other. The time to halt errant behavior is at a very very young age. It's all in DSM IV, though it's boring as hell to read. Good for insomnia though!
