Couple of things that might be worth adding:

Pronunciation - it's pronounced 'Owl-banny' not 'All-banny', as might be expected by the British reader. I don't think this is just a question of accent.

Climate - it's only a 'cold town' by Australian standards. Though I've never been rained on so much in my life.

I think it's a little unfair to say that Whaleworld glorifies whaling. From what I remember (and it's been a few years), it tells the story of whaling, but also of the move from whale-hunting to whale-watching for tourism. It makes a strong case for conservation.

From my last visit, I'd say the burning issue there was about coping with expansion rather than the collar on the dog rock! The population was growing fairly rapidly due to migration, and questions about redeveloping aspects of the sea front. However, all my knowledge on this is years out of date. Perhaps this isn't worth going into, though.

This looks good smiley - ok Here's some suggestions:

pick up on the ennui, one piece of scrawl
-->
pick up on the ennui, with one piece of scrawl

This...'ambience'...is probably on account of the first 'explorers' (read invaders), who killed anything of interest when they first arrived - including some of the local Aborigines, the Mineng Noongar people.

for there own personal use (read sex slaves)
-->
'for their own personal use' (read 'sex slaves')

Despite all that, the port of Albany has had many visitors, from royalty through to Australian writer and poet Henry Lawson - who said something unmemorable about how Albany will never change muchWell, he was proved wrong. Whaling ended, and the city ended up having a huge supermarket built. Yippee! - and Mark Twain, however, when he came to the port he preferred to stay on board the ship.

Lawson said something unmemorable about how Albany will never change much, but was later proved wrong – whaling ended, and the city ended up having a huge supermarket built. Yippee! Meanwhile, when Mark Twain came to the port, he perhaps sensibly decided to stay on board the ship.

I like the general tone very much - it seems you're giving the place a good natured drubbing that someone living there would not mind. smiley - smiley

Should Anzacs be ANZACS? and footnoted too?

Many nicely turned phrases - 'the old gaol is a popular tourist attraction to this day. The new one isn't so much' for example smiley - laugh

smiley - cheers

Thanks p,

I've added a footnote, just for you smiley - winkeye

I did try and keep it in the same tone as the original Entry - so I'm glad it came of as a loving drubbing, rather than the usual 'my hometown is smiley - bleep' kind of thing smiley - ok

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
