Really? The only thing the internet has taught me is nine million entirely irrelevant facts about Blade Runner which I'm attempting to ignore...oh and there's a very funny site about Britney Spears and physics

About which site? I assume not the Blade Runner sites as it's unlikely there'd be anything of interest to tell you there...The Britney site is also highly respectable so I keep my good fairy reputation
It's run by a load of physics students who wanted to show the more intelligent side to Britney and so she talks about semiconductor thingies...and stuff
*wonders if people can tell that she was too busy laughing to actually take note*

Well I've not seen it, so I don't actively like it. Is that good enough?

Bagpuss Posted Nov 12, 2000
No problem. Anything else I can not like for you?

Umm...I think you already dislike most fo the thngs I dislike so we should be alright for the minute but if I think of anything I'll let you know

Does that work conversely? What's your opinion on Broccoli?
Application for ambassadorial appointment
MaW Posted Nov 12, 2000
Broccoli is good, but only if it's cooked correctly. The other kind, sprouting broccoli, is repulsive and should be exterminated from the face of the planet.

*grins*
Well I'm glad that's sorted then
No but what he said...it's manky but if it's disguised or cooked correctly I'll happily munch it but it wouldn't be my first choice of vegetable
*thinks*
What's you stance on bacon?

Peregrin Posted Nov 12, 2000
Broccoli? Bleargh
I love bacon and I bet you would too if you didn't have the willpower not to eat it
I think bacon is addictive actually. I only have to start thinking about it and I desperately want to eat some.
Mmmm... bacon s.

You could have just done this for the same effect
*wonders if the vege bacon in her fridge is still alright or whether it's started growing again*
Whoever thought of claiming bacon was a non vegetarian food was mean...
*thinks*
What would happen if a pig just donated part of it's back leg or something as it didn't really need it? If it was still alive and happy afterwards it technically wouldn't count...
*can't belive she has been reduced to thinking of that*
I didn't mean that

The trouble is, most vegetarian meat substitutes (soya, quorn, etc) are genetically modified and thus produce equally debatable ethics...

What about Tofu? What's the general consensus on that?
Application for ambassadorial appointment
Peregrin Posted Nov 13, 2000
erm... I'm not sure what it's made of... but I think it's made from genetically modified yeast-like bacteria.
However, I think that's better than genetically modifying plants like wheat. If you do, the plants cross-pollinate with the original strains (even if they are miles apart from each other) and the modified genes spread across the country. And then all plants begin to take on the modified characteristics - for example, they are more vigorous, and start growing everywhere, destroying natural undergrowth; or instead they might demand lots of fertilizer to be able to grow, which means that poor farmers cannot afford to grow them.
Etc.

Tofu's made of soya, most of which I think is GM... it is possible to get hold of organic soya products, but they're pretty darn expensive.

Peregrin Posted Nov 13, 2000
Shame really, because soya is a cunning food source. It's a step towards completely synthetic foods, which although shouldn't be made a replacement to natural foods, are useful for space travel and famine relief.
I'm undecided on the issue really.

MaW Posted Nov 13, 2000
The trouble is, ethical objections aside, if we carry on the way we've been going GM foods, and especially soya, are going to be the only way the human race will be capable of feeding itself. We need to reduce the population big time.
