About that Tyrian purple made from mollusk shells......Notice how many people have trouble with blue and purple differentiation? It's distinctly possible that it was more of a blue colour. However, we can't know because that particular mollusk is extinct. The dye was also used for tallit (Jewish prayer shawls). Ask your nearest rabbi for more details.

I'll be sure to mention that to the next rabbi I see. Colours are very subjective, so i guess we'll never really know where the line was drawn between a blue or a purple. To behonest, I was always a little confused by what 'indigo' is...
