Good luck with the performance! smiley - musicalnote

I know this piece well, as my in-laws are all choristers and sing Messiah in Bath.

There's a British (English?) tradition that the audience have to stand up during the Hallelujah Chorus, after one king was moved to do so. Does this happen in Ireland?

Gnomon - time to move on

This tradition exists in Ireland too.

I'm surprised that the rabid republicans didn't manage to ban it, but I think the tradition of singing Messiah was carried on in Ireland by a different part of the community from the part who worked hard to remove every reference to king or royal. There are still Union Flags flying in St Patrick's, after all.
