Ok, i need advice of quite a few things

Skin tension on a 16" and 18" floor toms which is 3-ply birch as opposed to maple due to the fact that the skins i have are single ply only, clear medium

Also i want to use a double kick bass on a single bass drum, what is the best one to get and are they any good, or should i look at a double bass kit.

For rock what are the best sticks to get and what wood should i pick

Finally, what is the best cymbal set up i should use

If you can help then thanks, or is there another drummer who can that you know of on here

I'm afraid your questions are beyond me, but Bovril King (U1699204) might be able to help. He's been a rock drummer for (I believe) many years smiley - ok

Skin tension, the wood doesnt matter, but on larger toms, i.e. floor/bass mounted over 14" i always use a double ply heavy (it can be coated or transparent) the best quality is Remo

Double bass option is a personal taste and depends of size of kit, there are a good selection of double pedals for a one bass drum, but it needs to be an extra double chain for a smoother action, felt head and good docking station with oversize footboard, also oil it often, i recommend Sonor 600 series DP692, if you want to use a double bass kit a)to small a kit can look stupid, b)a drummer not used to double bass can sound stupid

Sticks, always a puzzler, depends on preference really, i have about 8 pairs and most are made of hickory (2B, 5B, Rock and 7A) also have maple (concert and blaster) all Sonor.....but as you said you play rock then my choice would be hickory rock (oval shaped tip 41cm long)

Cymbals, again depends on the size of you kit, i have a 13 piece double bass kit and have 4 crash cymbals (2x14" 2x16") 2 ride cymbals(16" and 18") splash(10").....if you have a basic 5 piece just go for crash (16" and 18") one ride (18")

Hope this helps, post if you want more helpsmiley - ok

Cheers Danny B, glad i could help a fellow drummer in Given

Also i dont know what your price range is as Sonor are really the Rolls Royce of drum kits and arent cheap, there are other good quality drum companies that will be cheaper, Premier or Yamaha will be cheaper for double pedals.

Again like cymbals, i would recommend spending a bit more and going for Zildjian, there are other ones cheaper and Zil is top quality, failing that then go for Paste or Sabiansmiley - ok

Enjoy

On the subject of double bass pedal, its very much about personal feel. Luckily me and my brother both get on with bigdog.

I have a Bigdog double pedal, the tension adjusters are the easiest i have used, giving it a lighter feel on double kick method ..excellent pedalsmiley - ok

Indeed. When I was using another kind of pedal it was hard to get just a double. With the bigdog one I can get four 16ths in a row single footed without too much difficulty.smiley - ok

Hey thats pretty excellent, how long have you been playing

4 years I think. When I say four 16th in a row though I mean at about 120bpm.

120bpm is still bloody good, what length can you keep it going before lose beat takes place

My problem is too much technicality. I find it so hard to improvise something good.
