in Asimov's book, "Please Explain", he says that the answer to this is that the two cannot exist in the same universe, so there is no paradox.

That reminds me of a philosophical question I've been pondering recently - is there a point to philosophical debates like the tree falling in a forest thing? And yes, I am aware of the contradiction there.

the point is to make you think about things you wouldn't normally and expand your mind. at least that's my theory.

Well yes, but you can still say that the argument is pointless from a certain point of view.
One might question whether you actually are expanding your mind by trying to solve pointless questions?
