This is scary - completely independently, without ever hearing of this project, I have developed an article called "Deep Thought - a beginners guide to philosophy".
Wanna take a look? Its..

I like the example of the aliens - very useful for an 'outside' perspective.
I like your article but I am working on making a much larger project (each page could be about 1 person, 1 term, 1 problem etc.) all inter-linked through the H2G2 University scheme. Would you like to work together on this? I am a bit busy in RL at uni right now but
from June onward , I ought to be free. I could always use a hand.

Right, well lets show a united front then!
Btw, I should forewarn you that I know, for want of a better phrase, jack-s**t about philosophy, I just enjoy philosophising. However, gicve me some dfata and watch me write!

I am currently doing my degree in Philosophy. I think it might actually work to our advantage to have the academic (not that I am *too* academic, mind you! ) and your own flair for philosophic writing in the project. Sort of weight and counter-balance...

Aye. But I have plenty to organise for my third year disertation. So I'll be starting looking into this around June - July. Have you any topics in mind you would like to cover? And recruiting others is an excellent idea.

I love the idea for the project. Might I suggest that a starting topic for discussion could be the nature of philosophy itself. I am a bit of a (lay) fan of Plato and have always been interested in the nature of truth and reality and how these can be discovered. The sources of info for this discussion are endless, encompassing philosophies of religion, science vs philosophy, etc.

Hi Deackie!
End of term for me so I'm really busy right now but I'll be devoting more attention to this over the summer. (i.e - I haven't really planned what to cover yet) but I want this Project to be as wide ranging and engaging as possible so I really like your idea I had wanted to do "an introduction to philosophy that would be the starting pit for all the other entries and I would certainly include a discussion on the nature of philosophy in that. When I get some free time I'll let everyone know but would you like to be involved in writing something about Plato (truth and reason etc.)? It's part of the range of the stuff that can be brought up and added to that attracted me to doing it in the first place.
Like I said when I'm not rushed off my feet doing exams and essays and stuff I'll look into getting this all arranged: topics, signing people up and getting what we write sub-edited.
Thanks for dropping by.

Great, three followers so far!
I've had some ideas for sections:
1. What is phiosophy?
2. History of Philosophy
3. Types of Philosophy
4. How to Philosophise
Just some ideas

I too am extremely busy at the moment so empathise entirely. Life will be much more relaxed when my next lot of assignments are done and handed in, then I can go on h2g2 without feeling guilty that I should be doing something else. Keep me posted with your ideas and I'll do what I can to help.

I can't wait
Unfortunately neither can my deadlines
-------------------------
HI Lodestone - I like those and see how they might work
1 - That's the introduction bit.
2 - As many philosophers as we can write about!
3 - Types and also definitions (like reductivism, consciousness etc) and the philosophers who used them: cross referenced.
4 - explain this can you please? what would you like to see?
---------------------
Hi Deackie - I'll be done next week but I'll be getting started for this in June (hopefully)

I found a lovely quote from Douglas Adams about deadlines the other day. It summed up my experiences perfectly. My dealine is the end of June so I'll be busy until then. I only get 4 weeks off in the summer, not like these other part-time students, tsk.

One of those 4 weeks I have off is a study week. Snot fair.
