Have you ever read "Pooh and The Philosophers" by John Tyermann Williams? It is the most comprehensive and accessible guide to western philosophy I have ever come across. It is also not too long.

Hmmm Thanks for that. Actually I confess I haven't, though I have seen the occasional copy floating around Waterstones. Might I suggest in return, if you are interested, taking a glance at "Sophie's World" by Jostein Gaarder, Succicnt and brilliant, it is a marvellous introduction to an engrossing subject and pulls it off without ever becoming verbose, but managing to always be clear and engaging. The story isn't half bad either...

P.S I'm having second thoughts about what to write about in my introduction. I might do Moral Philosophy instead. Now THAT is OLD!!!

I can explain this. My network is acting at SillyBuggers right now and I had to hit "re-load", hence the double-post.

Fair enough.

I have read the Jostein Gardner, but I wasn't as excited by it as most poeple I know who read it. It is a very clear and concise introduction to philosophy, but I found the tone of the book extremely irritating. Did you not find it patronising?

I suppose, in retrospect it may have had a patronizing tone to it. But at the time it was perfect. Now, less so. A better book then would be

"What does it all mean?" By Thomas Nagel. Neat, clear and brief. Although possibly bias toards the writers own opinions.

P.S Say, I don't suppose you want to contribute to the Deep Thought Project do you?
